I need some advice on my 200lt fish tank. I clean it thoroughly once a fortnight. I drain 3 quarters of the water, scrub all the plants and ornaments (all fake ones) vacuum the rocks re fill. I use water conditioner and some other stuff but after 1 week everything is completely green again! The water is still clear just everything else is covered in algae. I’v tried algae killers and always check the PH levels are correct but it still happens. I’m about to give up! Please help!

I am getting a small used acrylic fish tank (5 gallons). Its current owner says that it has a crack, but that the crack never leaked when she used to use it (she hasn’t used it recently). I feel that, to be safe, I should seal the crack somehow; but I want to make sure whatever sealant I use won’t hurt either my Betta fish (once I put him in) or the live plants I’m hoping to get. How should I go about patching the crack / sealing the tank?
Also, how should I clean the tank, gravel, and ornaments, before adding my Betta and live plants? Should I go for diluted bleach (I’m worried about not being able to fully rinse it out), vinegar, or just hot water (I’m worried about cracking the tank further if it’s too hot, or not getting it adequately disinfected if it’s not hot enough)?
Finally, are there any questions I should ask the tank’s previous owner when I go to pick it up tonight?

It was bulky trash day… and someone decided to use a perfectly good 40g tank as a dumping spot for used motor oil. I’d like to use this tank for raising freshwater shrimp later. I know, I’ve kept fish before. soap = not good. But oil can’t be good either, right? Paradox. Yeah. I’ll take anything. Help me?

I think that I’ve been over feeding my fish. The result is a foul smelling tank with decaying food material at the bottom. I have reduced the amount of times I feed the fish to once a day, but I am unsure how to go about cleaning it. Is scooping out the particles and changing some water enough? I have a Penguin BioWheel 125 Power Filter and an in tank corner filter. I don’t want to mess with the power filter, so I don’t destroy the good bacteria. Is it OK to change the carbon and filter floss in the submersible filter? Any smell reducing information is greatly appreciated!

What do you mean by clean? The maintenance a Aquarium requires? Every week I do a 25% water change on both my aquariums. The one without the Oto cats (algae eaters) I usually clean algae off walls once a month. I have little light source that hits it, but some aquariums need more cleaning of algae. Also the gravel gets vacuumed once a month. Most people test the water every week too. They are a lot of work. Some fish really require a weekly water change like Goldfish. Other fish can develop fatal ‘hole in the head disease’ like Gouramis and Oscars. You just can’t slack with certain fish.

I can’t imagine that would be a good idea… why not just take the piranha out and THEN clean it? I think it saves a lot of skin (haha…) for everyone..

so i have decided to temporarily house my hamster in a 15 gallon once fish tank which is now a hamster tank… then after i get my money i get a 15 gallon plastic cage of a plastic one… but i will get those plastic one which has tubes ones…
but the tank is heavy… so whenever i change bedding… there is not gonna be a problem… but what about their sh ts? and their poop? should i take a clean tissue paper and pick them up? or what? then after that i add in my bedding again?

i got the fish tank from the good will store and its in pretty good shape the only problem is it is really dirty. what can i use to clean it (some thing that won’t hurt my fish ). i can also use some suggestions fo decorating it . it is really big about 20 gal.
i have a gold fish and two white skirts so if you can tell me some fish that would get a long with them that would help allot. thank you!
