minimum would be a 10 gal but you would have to upgrade to a 20 gallon as your fish reached full growth, tiger barbs will like to be in a school of at least 5 but probably more like 6 or more. Larger pictus can be kept alone while smaller ones need to be kept in small schools of 3 or 4 at least…. Hope this helps;)

i have a Featherfin Squeaker/Synodontis Eupterus catfish in my tank and when i clean the tank and put him in the “fish bucket” which is and ice-cream pail he turns white and it take about a half hour once he’s back in the tank to turn back to brown. I googled it but found nothing of them doing this

My aquarium is 40 gallons and I already have one pictus catfish who is alone by himself. He/she spends all day hiding in a log until the lights are out and I am about to go to bed. Would adding more of those types catfish seem like a reasonable idea? Keep in mind that I would only plan on adding 2 more, and I have seen mixed answers saying multiple things. Some say that one of the catfis will try to establish dominance, while others say the three will get along like good buddies. If any of you guys have ever had more than one, let me know how it went.

i really want one and i have a 20+ gal aquarium . no more than in the 20′s range.
not sure how much.
but im psyched to get one and i wanna know the basics in taking care of it and if i can keep it in that size aquarium .

I would advise against keeping pictus with Oscars. Actually beware catfish in general. The reason being If an Oscar tries to sample the culinary delights of catfish flesh the spines can do quite a bit of damage. Oscars will try to eat smaller fish, but can also try fish too big for their mouth.
Keeping two Oscars is a chancy prospect as well. You may be lucky and get a mating pair, but if you get two males chances are they will become very aggressive towards each other as they mature.
With those caveats, from a bioload standpoint you would need in excess of 120 gallons with a high end filtration system and extreme dedication to tank maintenance

Hi, I have two otos, 2 corydoras sterbai and one beta in a 30 litre planted tank. I bought the beta 3 months ago and the other fish 2 weeks ago. Two days ago I found small white spots on my beta’s fins (not many but enough for me to realise that it was ick/ich) so I separated him and used some medicine which is a blue dye like colour (I used it in both the sick tank and the planted one with the otos and corys).
One of my otos is healthy and active whilst the other one has become lethargic and is always in the same spots of glass. there is a lot of algae, i feed them zuchini and sinking wafers too.

one is really shiny silver about 2 inches long and the other is about 80% black with black on its fins. is this normal? besides the colors they look exactly the same. right now they are in a 10 gallon as juveniles then they will be moved to a 55 then 210 and so fourth

Perfectly normal…. there’s a range in color from almost white (leucistic) to almost completely black.

I have a 10 gallon established tank with a red wag in it and cory catfish. My betta fish is in his own 2.5 gal tank but I have had issues getting it to stay a proper temperature and clean (lately I have had to change the water twice a week to keep it clean). My betta is having issues now and has fin rot. I really would like to put him in the 10 gal tank with the other two fish but I’m not sure if he would fight either of them. Any advice would be appreciated.
