I have a small female betta in my 5g tank with a filter and a heater. the temp is about 76-78f and i’ve had her for about 2 weeks, she is gray with black stripes running across her body, and she is full of life. I thought she might be lonely so (24hrs ago) i went and bought a tiny bottom feader catfish to eat the left over pellets, and i also bought a colorful blue and red female betta for her company. Ever since i came home and put the fish in the same water as my grey betta, the colorful betta has not been eating the pellets. She will swim around, hide and swim more. She will go to the top and take a breathe quite often too. It seems like she is going to the top for air alot and a little more breathing heavily. And she is also losing some color, she was dark but now she looks as if she is getting lighter. My two bettas do not fight or flare, they dont really acknowledge eachothers existence so i suppose their not “friends” as you would say. I recently put the colorful betta in a 2g bowl so that i can see if she will eat if she is not near the other fish, and so she cant hide from the food. but nothing yet. any advice? Is she sick?

i bought a black moor from petco for my daughter 2 days ago, her name is Dunce Dunce
when we got her she was pretty spunky. i put her into a 5 gallon tank with filter.
i used filtered water and let it sit for at least 24 hours before DD went into the tank.
i also used some of that water treatment that came with the aquarium kit.
so yesterday i noticed DD was sinking to the bottom and slightly swimming sideways.
now she is just hiding in the bottom corner and not moving at all.
she seems to have turned more of an orange color or at least lost a lot of her color.
her tail looks sad and i swear one of her eye popped out. not fell out but swelled up, i really don’t think she had that when we bought her.
please can someone help me? is she in shock?
i really want to help this fishy survive!
oh and the temp is around 74, i did not check my water
as i do not have a tester kit. should i buy one today?
and please don’t lecture me about the tank size, this was a gift
and we went to the store to have them help us find a good fish for the size of tank.
the worker suggested that i put 3 goldfish in the 5 gallon tank and i thought one was enough.
now that i have researched i know that DD will need a bigger tank, and if she survives this I will save up for a bigger tank for her.

It does get really cold here in the winter. down to the 20′s and 30′s at worst. will they live?

They will be just fine as long as the water is at least 18″ deep somewhere in your pond.

Just Bought Red Minor Tetra From Petsmart. I Am Sure They Are Sick What To Do Now?

I have a 10gallon that has been sitting with no fish for good 3 months. I finally got time to go buy some fish, went to petsmart and like the neon tetras there. I noticed they had ich, pretty sure they did so I looked for a tank where the fish looked healthy and no sign of the spots. Finally picked the red minor tetras, they looked ok at the store. Picked 6 of them. After coming home I floated the bag in my tank for good 20-30 minutes before letting them in. They are just hovering in the middle of the tank and their fin movements are really fast, spastic/jerking. They seem to be breathing fast as well. They basically look like my neons when they got ich (lost all of them) but without the spots. Should I start the ich treatment just in case? I can’t up the water temp because my heater is factory se to 74F and I can’t change it, unless I buy another heater. I put in some aquarium salt.
I really wish there was another fish store around here so I wouldnt have to deal with petsmarts and their sick fish.

i seriously cant get over this hamster thing… remember i said that i was gonna bring back a hamster? in my another question? now i hesitated… and i am not gonna give up my plan for getting a hamster… i badly want one… and i changed my mind… my mom had already planned on next sunday to go on a course which will last from 12pm to 8pm… 8 hours… i will use this time to bring back the hamster cage and assessories which i bought today… the money i had been saving for along time… like 2 weeks… so i got everything… and today i bought a hamster… i was intending to show my mom at the entrance of the door and tell her everything but some people from yahoo answers said that it was not good and some said i should explain and talk to her about this… but how can i talk to her about this? i am not that kind of person which just sits and talk to anybody… my mom knows that i hardly talks to her in a kind way… i talk with vulgar words sometimes… and dont talk like an angel… so i could not choose that way… and Ops i forgot to tell you guys… this time i want to try this out and if it does not succeeds i will consider giving up… but as i said i wont give up so easily… but on the actual day if i get a beating and a quarrel that last long i will not get hamsters anymore if they throw it away on the actual day… i am willing to risk this but i am a little afraid… i did not think of this at all… until 1 month ago i thought of getting a hamster and my mom did not let me to have it… then after some days i thought of this plan… but still… i said i wont give up so easily… i know i am stubborn but i really want a hamster badly… if they really humiliate me on that day i wont stand on and after they throw it away i might give up or buy another time and see what they can do… and the cycle repeats itself… i really really wished someone professional would be there to convince my mom because she said hamsters can cause athsma is that true? she said if you breathe in the fur you will get athsma and the fur will fly over the house… given her scolding i know i dont stand a chance in getting one hamster but i really want it… Here are reasons why i should have one and why i should not have one…
Reasons why i should have one:
1.i know how to take care of them and i researched all about them already and watched youtube teaching videos already…
2.i am matured enough to take care of them and if i can take care of 2 fish tanks with fishes… why cant i take care of a small little hamster????
3.i am willing to take care of it and i will do everything on my own… washing, cleaning, and everything.
4. i am willing to pay everything on my own…
5.The hamters can keep me company and restrict me from playing computer games…(the fish did got my attention but fishes require much lesser care than hamsters and i cant really play with them so a hamster will do great!)
Reasons why i should not have a hamster:
1.It will spend my pocket money and that i dont mind at all…
2.if it gets sick we have to spend time to bring it to a vet which i WILL bring it there MYSELF and spend the fees myself Unless it is a really expensive and i truly cannot afford then i will either give it to my friend or give it to petshops to see if they will accept it… or maybe i will burrow money from my parents and pay the vet and later… return them the money…
So these are all the reasons why!
and now the actual question:
If you went out happily to go for a course and coming back finding a hamster cage with a hamster inside… (knowing that your son bought it and knowing that he did hint to you before that he wants one and knowing that you rejected him) what will you do? here are some options..
A. Throw the hamsters away
B. Scold him badly till night… which will last from like 8pm till 10 pm or maybe even later…
C. Ask brothers and sisters… (which is my uncles and auntys) to come and lecture me)
D. Give me a beating
E. Let me have the hamsters and let it go…
What do you think the combinations will be? A and E? A and D? or what? and other options and advices please specify and advice me… Sorry for the SUPER LONG QUESTION :D but thanks if you could answer me…
