Algae Bloom – Greenish Cloudy Water – Help?

Hi everyone… I think I’m having a problem with cloudy water and I think it’s algae bloom. I have a 12 gallon JBJ Nano Cube that has been running since January. The cloudy water that I’m now experiencing almost reminds me of the bacterial bloom that I had in the first few weeks of my tank. This time around is appears almost the same with a light green hue (looks almost white though). When I noticed the water getting cloudy last week, it didn’t really appear with a greenish hue so I thought it was just due to overfeeding or something. As a result, I bought a water clarifier. The bottle said to try two doses of it, 24 hours apart, and if it doesn’t clear up to seek advice. So it hasn’t seemed to do any help and the water is cloudier than ever. I’ve done two 25% water changes (days apart) within the last week. I’ve check my water parameters and it all checks out okay (0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and 5ppm nitrates). I also, for the heck of it, rinsed off the filter sponge and changed out the carbon bag with some new Ammo-Carb activated carbon.

I need some advice on how to alleviate the cloudiness. It’s really bothering me that my tank’s water is not crystal clear.

This is what I think is the culprit, but I can be wrong.. please correct me if I’m wrong or partially correct. I THINK it has something to do with not changing out the lamps in this nano cube to freshwater bulbs. Currently is has two 24-watt 50/50 compact fluorescent lamps and I think the bloom might be due to the blue actinic lights… FYI, I don’t leave my lights on for long periods of time.. only 2 to 3 hours in the morning and then 2 to 3 hours at most at night. The tank is near that kitchen and not near any windows. Lastly, the tank is fish-only with no live plants.

What do you guys think? What are steps that I can do to get my water crystal clear again?
@Ianab I can only swap out the bulbs to 6500k freshwater. The bulbs that came with the tank are 10k 50/50.. I don’t know how I would be able to reduce the lighting since the lighting in the nano cube is integrated and 1 switch turns on/off both lights. I don’t have an option to turn on just one of the two CF lamps.

I can’t seem to get rid of the algae bloom in my aquarium. How do I get rid of the green cloudy water?

i have a bacterial bloom in my fish tank?

the bacterial bloom is causing my tank (10 gallons) to be very opaque and cloudy, how long till the bacterial bloom settles? i know this is the beggining of the nitrogen cycle, how do i know when the cycle is complete?

Cloudy Water in aquarium. Bacterial Bloom??

Well…here is the problem. I’ve had my 50 gallon tank set up for about 4 months now and I’ve had a cloudy tank for the past few weeks. I have a 5″ oscar, 3″ red devil and a 3″ flowerhorn. I only feed them twice a day and leave no leftovers in the tank. I’m running a bio wheel 280 filter that seems to be operating correctly. All levels in the tank are fine – PH 7.0 and no ammonia. The fish seem to be fine, but I just can’t seem ot get rid of this milky water no matter what I seem to do. I’ve done 25% water changes 3 sperate times, and it does nothing. I bought some seachem clarity last night and dumped some of that in the tank – hopefully that will work. Anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks!
The 3 25% changes I did have been in the past couple weeks.
Finatic: I think you are incorrect about the over population. My fish are still rather small. Yes, these fish do need 75-125 gallon tanks but this is when they reach their peak sizes of 12″ +. Right now my fish are rather small. To further justify this, my friend has 4 LARGE oscards in a 55 gallon tank and the water is as clear as day. He’s been running that set up for about 4 years now with no problems.

Bacterial bloom! please help!!?

i’ve had bacterial bloom for a little over two weeks now in my 20g. water changes haven’t done anything but when i have done them i’ve stirred up the gravel…i don’t know if that helped or hurt it. i haven’t changed the water in a week. i added “Cycle” yesterday and haven’t noticed too much of a change. my fish were getting really sick so i put them into a 10g tank and to my surprise, an hour later, that water had turned cloudy just like my 20g!!!! so my question is, should do a water change now in my 20g, (if so, how much) and add another dose of cycle? and can i move my fish from the 10g (which seems to be way more cloudy) back into my 20g?? please help, i am beside myself here and running out of options, and money!
thank you soo much!
btw, i cycled my 20g tank for a week before adding fish.
ALSO, should i change my filter cartridge??

How long does it ake for a bacterial bloom to clear up?

My fish tank has been cloudy for a few weeks now. It’s a 30 gallon and the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate all test zero. About every other day I have been replacing about 5 gallons of water. It does not seem to be helping at all. It will look a little better with the new water but by the next day it’s very cloudy again. I took out one of the buildings because I read that it possibly could be breaking down but no use. I also changed the filter. Should I just wait it out or should I be doing something else? By the way I don’t have many fish. 2 neon tetra, 2 red wag platy, 1 gold gourami and 1 rainbow shark. Thanks for any help.
I should mention that this is not a start up. This tank has been up and running since April. I’m not trying to cycle with fish, I already had cycled then added my fish and everything had been fine until now.
