Hey guys, so about 2 weeks or so ago i put up that my Golden Dojo was sick with something, i thought it maybe a parasite. So i went out and got a 5.5 gallon quarentine tank with a little filter, and take some of the media from my 20 gallon so he wouldnt have to cycle all over again.
well since i put him in there, i started feeding him a little bit 2-3 times a day, hoping it was just malnutrition.
He basically was getting SUPER thin, thinner than normal, an indent formed in his stomach, a long line on his belly folded in. I had several guppies die in the same way, hense my thinking a parasite. basically he is wasting away.
I gave him some novqua anti-biotic stuff, with slime coat additive, with just a small amount of aquarium salt because i know loachs dont like that stuff.
He started getting a whole heck of a lot better. then i noticed a couple days ago that there was this wierd patch on his side. I look today, and that patch is gone, there is a gaping hole in his side and i can actually see his bones where the patch used to be.
What could this be?
I changed 2 gallons every day out of the 5.5 gallon tank with filter, and i stopped adding aquarium salt a while ago after he was improved. so there is no aquarium salt in there at all.
What could cause a fish to waste away, then have a hole in the side?

I Just upgraded to a 60 gallon aquarium, from a 45 gallon.
In my 45 i had 3 black skirt tetras and 3 red minor tetras along with some others.
I know however that 3 of each is not enough, and i didnt want to over stock my 45 gallon, so i didnt add anymore.
However with the 60 gallon i can add more fish, (i am going to do a 2 week quarantine, i have a 20 gallon quarantine tank for just that reason)
But i want to upgrade the number of black skirt tetras and red minor.
Currently the 3 of each dont usually school together, 60% of the time when i watch they are swimming together but the other 40% they are off doing their own thing.
What is a good size number of fish for them to school with? and if i added in thew new black skirt tetras would my current ones school with them? and same for the red minor?
Just for additional info incase it may inform your responses.
Currently in my 60 gallon i have
3 black skirt tetras
3 red minor tetras
4 Male Guppies (brood brothers)
6 Female Bettas (they did their fighting to establish hierarchy, and now school nicely together
)
1 Dwarf Gourami
and 2 Otto Catfish (I had 3 but one died, will add 2 more i think)

What is the best way to clean the sand in my aquarium. I have used various different gravel vac, and many different sized plastic tubes, to no avail, they seem to clean some of the waste but there seems to be lots of small bits in the sand that i can’t get out. I have even syphoned out the sand and tried to clean it in buckets but still can’t get all the small bits out.

I just put in a 30 gallon aquarium. I bought 6 African Cichlids for $5.99 a piece. I bought them kind of as a bridge to get a barracuda or even a piranha. But, the more I watch these fish, the more I like the sick colors and stuff. Anyways. My question is 1. Will these fish grow big enough to the point to eat feeder guppies? and 2. Will these fish grow too large to have 6 of them in a 30 gallon aquarium.

Okay, I have a 190 Liter tropical fish tank at the moment, I am having to sell it, due to relocation. Sadly I will have to get rid of my fish and Tank
. I am still very enthusiastic about fish, and my son wants to have a tank in his bedroom, he is 13 years old, and is very responsible for his age. He will clean them out every week. Now onto the main question, I am looking for a starter tank, that includes everything, from a filter to a tank pump. Can anybody send me some links to well known retailers etc. Pets at Home, Tesco, Asda etc. Please send me the links whether it is a tropical tank, or a cold fish tank. Thanks in advance!

We live in Florida, and my children are into catching lizards outside. They put them in a 50 gallon aquarium (located outside), but I make them let the lizards go every couple of days because I know they are not feeding them enough bugs. Any ideas on how to easily catch live bugs to feed to the lizards?

I noticed the other day that the filter for my fish tank was beginning to accumulate quite a bit of waste and debris. Is it better to just rinse it off and continue to use the same filter or replace the filter altogether? Also, I noticed there is some stuff stuck on the pump where the water pours back into the tank… I’m assuming that it’s either just algae or remains of what made it through the filter. Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t cleaning off any important bacteria.

I have a 2.5 minibow tank that I want to have African dwarf frogs in. I recently had a goldfish before learning they were extremely dirty and needed more space. Needless to say, he died of ich.
I have completely cleaned out the tank and let it dry for a week. I am now looking to stock it back up with some frogs. I know I shouldn’t do more than two but I have gotten conflicting information from many sources as how best to go about doing this.
1. I have bigger rock/gravel. Should I use that or mix with smaller gravel? I am planning on feeding them in a dish so the food getting lost should not be too big of an issue.
2. I have a filter that came in the minibow but heard that the frogs are really sensitive to vibrations and water movement. Is this small enough for them to be okay or should I not use it?
3. Do I need to cycle a 2.5 gallon tank?? I have heard MANY stories of people trying for months to cycle that small of a tank and it just not working because it was so small. If I do proper water changes and test frequently will it be okay? If not, how best do I cycle the tank without it taking months????
4. Once I get everything ready, what is the best way to introduce the frogs to their new home? I have heard mix with some tank water and their old pet store water, float the bag in the tank for 5 minutes and then just dump them right in. Is this okay or another suggestion???
5. Can they eat dried krill as well??? I have seen it stated some places but not all. I do know their favorite are blood worms. What about the frozen bites that are sold for fish? As long as they are in small enough pieces shouldn’t those be good?? They are mixed blood worms, brine shrimp, krill and a couple other worm types I believe.
THANK YOU for all your help! I am new to this whole aquarium thing. I had fish before but in tiny bowls and they lived forever. Now I am trying to do it right with proper size and maintenance but need help.
