Are There Any Crabs Or Shrimps For Freshwater/tropical Aquariums?

i wanted a marine tank, but my mom wont let me because its too expensive, so i want a tropical tank instead. i wanted some more interesting creatures in there as well as some nice fish. if you could sugges some nice fish that will live happily with the crabs or shrimps (if there are any) that would be appreciated. my sister has a tropical tank as well, so she’ll help me look after them, but if you have any useful tips i’d be thankful for that also. THANK YOU!! :)

Lighting Aquariums Blue Up White Down?

Right i have a big fish tank. i have looked in to different types of lighting and have gone with leds. My wife comes to me and says she wants it to be blue (so looks like ocean). i dont like the idea of them being in blue so i proposed i could make a platform within the hood of the tank and have a strip of white leds facing down and on the other side have blue leds facing up in to the hood with foil on to reflect blue back in to the take. would this create the effect of the sky making the water blue but the white leds make the tank light up???

Quiet Air Pump For Aquariums Or Alternative Method?

I’ve got 3 tanks in my room. 10, 20, 36 gallon. 10 gallon has a small old air pump and is surprisingly quiet for its size and doesn’t bother me too much. The 20 and 36 gallon tanks have larger air pumps. The Tetra Whisper 20 and 40. I can’t stand the noise of these or the noise the bubbles make when the hit the surface of the water.
Do I even need these or will the filters provide enough agitation to the water to properly aerate the tank even though its pretty much all covered?
My only other option is to run them when I’m not home which right now is about 6 hours a night.

all-purpose Plaster sand for aquariums>>?

Question by Kandi: all-purpose Plaster sand for aquariums>>?
Hello, we have some “all purpose Plaster Sand” that we use for random things around the house.. so i was wondering if this would work for aquariums?

i am going to start a new (possibly planted) tank, so also, (if it is ok for aquariums) then would it work well for a planted aquarium?

Thanks!

You know what works great? Play sand like you’d get for a sandbox. You can get it at hardware and do-it-yourself stores. I know people who use only play sand.

Plaster sand doesn’t sound like a good idea, is surely too fine, and may contain anti-fungal chemicals, especially if it’s meant to be used in home construction or repair.

Play sand is clean and free of chemicals because it’s meant for children, and a big bag of it is cheap.

I highly recommend root fertilizer tabs for your planted tank.
