ok, so my goldfish was laying at the bottom of the tank breathing hard. he layed there for awhile with the other fish that was laying there too. then he got up and started swimming all around the tank and then he went back down to the other fish and started pushing it (like he wanted it to get up). then he layed back down and like went out. he was moving his mouth a little, then he stopped and was moving his fins and now he isn’t breathing or moving at all. but he is not floating.
i think he died from the chlorine. here is the story.
we went to our cousins today, and we saw there fish tank, it was green and slimy and gross. so offered to clean it. then when we had the fish in there pot while we were cleaning it they said we could have the fish. so we agreed to take them, and then when we were looking for the drops to rid the chlorine they said they didn’t have any more. and the fish couldn’t stay in the bags all night, they would have died, so we purified the water and put them in the tank with new water (room temperature) and we added the old water from the bags they were in.but there were no stores open because of christmas, so we couldn’t go buy any
so thats what i think killed him.
but why isn’t he floating?? and also why did he get up and swim and then just go out the other fish was like out and now he is swimming arounf and breathing right, he is fine, why couldn’t the other make it?

Here is what I have:
1) 14 gallon tank
2) Heated (it’s about 78F)
3) Filtered
4) Decorated
5) Live/ fake plants
6) pH about 6.2 (I am using buffering though to get it around 7.0)
I have no idea what to stock it with. Got rid of my old fish since I wanted a new aquarium.
Please list how many/ what fish I can keep!
Here are some fish I really like: NOTE: IF I GET FISH, I’M USING AN ALL MALE TANK, NO FEMALES!
-Guppies
-Platys
-Swordtails
-Mollies
-Ghost shrimp
-Snails
-Albino/ Panda cory
-Otocinclus
-Danios (gold, blue, grey, glo)
-Tetras (mostly black and neon)
-Bettas (If I got these, I would use either 1 male or some amount of females)
-White cloud mountain minnow
-ADF’s (African dwarf frogs)
I have never tried Chichlids… Are they easy?
Please list:
-What breed(s)
-How many I can have
-Possible tank COMBOS
-About how much each breed would cost

Question by Megzz ._.: Can anyone please help me answer some hamster questions?
My hamster chews on her plastic wheel, how do I get her to stop? I have chewing sticks and put it in front of her face, then she ignores the chewing stick and just chews on the plastic. If I take the wheel out, she tries to escape and I really don’t need that happening..
She bites EVERYTHING she sees hands, fingers EVERYTHING! I can’t even have a chance to pick her up!! I’ve tried putting a jar in her cage and letting her climb on my hand, but she just nibbles my hand like crazy!!!
And for the first question, is plastic bad for my hamster?
My hamster always gets on top of her igloo and “stands” up, is she trying to escape or does she want my attention? I don’t have a bar cage so she has an aquarium.
Thank you. =)

Hey! Good thing Nick starred this question sense I hang around in the bird section more often. First, it’s in a hamsters nature to bite. They bite anything in site (which means almost everything in their cage) and this is fine. If it was made for hamsters, it can’t harm them. Just make sure that she has enough chew toys inside her cage to chew on. If your trying to hold her, bring along a toy with you or towel for her to chew on. I do this with my guinea pig, and it works really well. Buy a variety of different toys from your vet store. Sometimes a hamster with enjoy the flavored ones more, and this gets them to use it more. When a hamster is standing up, it means they are curious or on the lookout. They’re scanning the area to see what is going on around them. They’re being alert.

My goldfish has been having white stringy poo for about 4days now (not an internal bacteria infection as ive already tried treating for that).
Last week I took a water sample to a fish shop where I was told some kind of levels were to high and to change a little bit of the water each day for a week. I did and on monday took another sample on monday and was then told the water was too CLEAN!
I was given freeze dried daphnia as the woman said he must be constipated and something to add good bacteria into the tank for the ‘too clean’ water called “nutrafin cycle”
My goldfish still has white stringy poo, a clamped fin and sometimes only breathes from one gill. Hes flashing a bit now too after giving him the daphnia. Ive not put the cycle thing in yet as I was told to wait a week or two.
What could be wrong if its not an internal bacteria infection or not constipation?! (I thought it wasnt that anyway:-P) could it be an internal parasite?
I put in tetra goldmed medicine thats how I know its not a int bacteria infection. Could it be just because I havent put in the cycle stuff yet? :-S ive had him for 8months, he lives in a 20gallon tank with a filter and I do weekly partial water changes normally with dechlorinator.
What does it sound like? Not ick either btw as he has no white dots etc! His tail does look a little discoloured/white at the end.

I Just upgraded to a 60 gallon aquarium, from a 45 gallon.
In my 45 i had 3 black skirt tetras and 3 red minor tetras along with some others.
I know however that 3 of each is not enough, and i didnt want to over stock my 45 gallon, so i didnt add anymore.
However with the 60 gallon i can add more fish, (i am going to do a 2 week quarantine, i have a 20 gallon quarantine tank for just that reason)
But i want to upgrade the number of black skirt tetras and red minor.
Currently the 3 of each dont usually school together, 60% of the time when i watch they are swimming together but the other 40% they are off doing their own thing.
What is a good size number of fish for them to school with? and if i added in thew new black skirt tetras would my current ones school with them? and same for the red minor?
Just for additional info incase it may inform your responses.
Currently in my 60 gallon i have
3 black skirt tetras
3 red minor tetras
4 Male Guppies (brood brothers)
6 Female Bettas (they did their fighting to establish hierarchy, and now school nicely together
)
1 Dwarf Gourami
and 2 Otto Catfish (I had 3 but one died, will add 2 more i think)

I just put in a 30 gallon aquarium. I bought 6 African Cichlids for $5.99 a piece. I bought them kind of as a bridge to get a barracuda or even a piranha. But, the more I watch these fish, the more I like the sick colors and stuff. Anyways. My question is 1. Will these fish grow big enough to the point to eat feeder guppies? and 2. Will these fish grow too large to have 6 of them in a 30 gallon aquarium.
