How To Clean A Brown Algae?

There is brown algae that is blooming on my fish tank and it is blooming on the gravel and my aquarium ornament like big rocks and drift woods (plastic drift wood). How should I remove it in the gravel? I think the gravel is much hardier to clean than the ornaments because I’ve already encountered this problem on my fish tank and after I finish cleaning my tank, and after a week, today its start blooming again in the gravel and also in glass. IS there a liquid solution that can automatically remove any algae? Please help me! :(

I just did the same thing (scraping the hard algae colonies) today using a credit/gift card… It worked wonders on those hard-to-get-off diatom algae colonies! Also, chemical algae killers should be your VERY last resort because they are harmful to plants and just cause general trouble with inverts.

EDIT: Algae cannot use ultraviolet light to photosynthesize, and there is very little UV light emitted from aquarium lighting…

What Kind Of Algae Eater Can Go With A Blood Parrot Cichlid?

I have a smallish tank and cannot have too many fish, but I can manage one more fish. I currently have a blood parrot cichlid who is very aggressive. She has already eaten a Chinese Algae Eater and a Pleco. I would like to have some type of cleaner fish so that I don’t have to rely so heavily on chemicals and constant cleaning. I was thinking about a shrimp or crab to clean up the uneaten food which would improve water quality and a snail to work on the algea. I’m just looking for some imput as to what is actually going to be able to survive with my aggressive fish. Thanks!

My Fish Tank Gets Covered In Algae Really Fast?

I have a 3-Gallon fish tank with one fish in it. I have a filter and a heater. I clean the tank every two weeks, but that is because within days it gets covered in brownish orange algae stuff. How can I fix this? Is it my filter? And will snails help it?

Betta With Algae On Him And Hangs Out By The Filter?

My boyfriends sister has a male vailtale betta that has algae on his body and a bit on his his fins. He always stay at the bottom of the tank. I then did a 50% water then added aquarium salt thinking it was velvet. Now all he does is stay behind the filter and move around somewhat. He still has algan his body and some on his tail. Any ideas?

Blue-green Algae Issue, Re-post?

I posted a question on this a while ago, but didn’t get much help.
I have a 10 gallon Betta tank with a male fish and a couple small snails. It’s heated. There’s been an issue of blue green algae growth for awhile. I’ve been doing 10-15% water changes every day, and cleaning the sponge filter daily in a bucket of the tank water. The tank does not get direct sunlight- just the light from the hood light. I clean off the decorations every day. I’ve cut back a little on their feedings, down to every other day instead of daily to try and reduce waste. I’ve also added air stones to increase oxygen levels and surface agitation (though it’s still not too much for the Betta). I’ve also put in a couple apontogen bulbs to compete with the blue-green algae for nutrients.
I’ve been doing this for a few weeks now, and I’m seeing NO improvement. I want to do everything I can before I stoop to adding chemicals to my tank. Any more ideas?
