During this time, the new exoskeleton is still soft and vulnerable so it would be unable to defend itself well. It must hide until the new exoskeleton has hardened and he is not in danger anymore.

After More Debating, My 5 Gallon Plan…?

I’ve decided to drop completely my plan for a 2.5 gallon tank as an extra to focus more on my 5 gallon plan, I know what you’re saying… “5 Gallons?! That’s nothing!” Yes…I know… But i’m a teenager who is a beginner fish keeper looking to upgrade from the regular bowl Betta. So, 5 gallon is what I have, and what I can fit considering I have a crowded room right now.
Anyways, my plan:
In the 5 gallon tank, I plan to keep 1 male/female Betta, 1 small mystery snail, an African dwarf from or some other type of fish.
I would really like another type of fish to keep with my Betta, but nothing schooling or that will bother the Betta.
I was thinking some kind of sucker/ bottom feeder fish (Not Chinese algae eater because I’ve heard they grow to big and are expensive. Feel free to tell me wrong though!)
I like the idea of having the frogs but I may just get 2 and put them in my 2.5 gallon.
Also, with the Betta, why is everyone so against shrimp? I Kinda would like to have 1-2 small cherry/ghost shrimp but everybody just tells me to forget about them Why is that?
Anyways what do you think I should do? I want the Betta for sure, I want shrimp more than a snail for a cleaner, and I want a sucker type fish more than frogs, but i’m still debating that one. What should I do? Which would be the best combination to fit my needs as a fish owner! That being I like fish activity, color, and variety (I know i’m limited by the tank size but work with me!)
Also as a last side note…Do I NEED a heater? I had a Betta before by himself in the 2.5 gallon with no filter, no heater or light hood. He was active, ate a lot, and lived a good… 4.5 years I believe! So do I need the heater?

Fish Gasping For Air After Water Cleaning?

This has never happened to me before. I owned a few betas and I clean there tanks and everything is fine. This time I washed out his bowl with gravel and put him in with the conditioner I normally use and hes at the top all sick looking not happy at all. I keep reading about ammonia and oxygen levels but can’t understand why that be a problem, being I just cleaned it. The fish has been like this for two days and oddly the water is starting to look a little cloudy already. Any idea?

Soft Gel Fish Oil Pill Not Dissolving After 12 Hours?

Hey everybody. I have been feeling a little sick for the past couple days. Nothing serious just a common cold. This morning when I woke up i took a vitamin and also a fish oil like i usually do. Now its almost midnight and I felt I had to vomit. looked into the toilet after it happened, and the soft gel came out in perfect condition!! Is this normal? It just seems odd to me and has me wondering if something is wrong.

Will My Guppy Be Ok After Staying In Soft Water?

I am new to the idea of owning fish and recently bought a 10 gallon aquarium and a day later bought 3 guppies (a male and two females) p.s I know your sopposed to wait like 2 days or more for the tank to cycle but oh well…anyways after a day the male began to act kind of funny and wouldn’t eat a day after I got the fish he died. I knew something was wrong in the water and went and got it checked. Everything turned out to be fine except the water was to soft. I have since taken out about one gallon of water and added one gallon of tap water with conditioner. Still one of my females is acting the same way as the male and I want to know if it is possible that she will get better. Can a fish come back from this? Is there anything I can do to help her?

After A Columnaris Infection In Fish…?

I lost 7 of my 12 guppies to columnaris (bacterial infection). I have treated with triple sulfa and everyone now looks healthy. I also just started a new 20 gallon tank, with two honey sunset dwarf gouramis to start. My question stems around this bacteria: could it still be living in the plants and ornaments in the other tank? I have two anubias plants and piece of driftwood that I want to transfer to the other tank, but I don’t want to bring the bacteria in. I’m assuming the treatment killed the bacteria but would like to hear from others familiar with this fish disease. Also, does the bacteria die after being dried out? I have a siphon, buckets and a fish net that have been exposed to the sick tank but use these things for two other tanks.
Here is the website I used to diagnose my fish… http://www.americanaquariumproducts.com/…

Why Did My Goldfish Die Right After Changing The Water?

I have a 60 gallon tank with three goldfish, two small Suckermouth Plecos, and one Cichilid. I changed their water today and, after waiting for the water temperature to return near to normal and to let the de-chlorinating chemicals work their way through, two of my goldfish rapidly started turning white. One is fine and still swimming around with his color seeming to return, but the other lay along the bed, often sideways, and then died after within about five hours of changing the water. I’m new to aquariums and have realized that changing nearly the entire tank may have required a new cycling process, but I don’t understand why my fish perished so quickly. Granted, I’m living in China so it might have something to do with the water quality here, but I really love my fish and don’t want to find secluded places to bury them all. I have no idea what the pH balance is because, like I said, I’m in China so those things are hard to find, but all the research I have done seemed to indicate that poor water quality would result in disease and potentially eventual death, not a fish going from happy-go-lucky to dead on the tank bottom in one night. She had no signs of fin rot, Ich, or any other diseases I researched while worrying why she was acting so funny.
I’ll be honest – I was overfeeding them slightly, and I know their water quality hasn’t been perfect due to that and the China factor, but I have been doing everything I can and until today all of my fish were happy, healthy, swimming around merrily, and this was a fish that has been healthy for the two weeks I’ve been in this apartment and for who knows how long before then. Can someone please explain how one of my fish could die so quickly? I desperately do not want to make the same mistake if it was something that should be within my control.

After How Much Days I Need To Change The Water Of Planted Aquarium?

I have 3 tanks in my home right now 1st 20 gallon, 2nd 50gallon, 3rd one is of also 50 gallon.
currently I have one 50 gallon empty. so I think that it’s a great idea to go with one planted aquarium.
coz planted aquarium always attract me.. but since a year ago I’ve brought some plants (seller said that was Amazon BANANA plants) but they have died…that time I didn’t know about co2 stuff!
now these couples of days I’ve researched on a planted aquarium and I find out that there are also many plants which grows well without co2! actually the don’t need co2 to grow like others do. like java moss, etc
so here are my questions
1] I’ve seen some videos during my research on youtube..there are my people says that now I’m gonna change the water after 5 or 6 month (for near about 50 GL tank)
so is it true that you don’t need to change the water for 5 to 6 month after setting up it well?
2]
and my other question based on the video..(link is after the question)
so If we set up a tank like they told to do in video with all fertilizer, conditioners, etc then do we need to do the same thing on every water change? and what is the period of changing the water of your tank?
coz I’ve heard also on one video that guy have planted tank and after showing the setup he said “now this set up gonna change after a year or so.”
so are those all setup like shown in video gonna get good health of plants for a year or so?
and abt the fish so I’ll go with neons and like that
I’ve golden sand, some hand size rocks, 1.5 feet sinking ship model & internal power whisper filter with foam pads & biomax which can filter water max: 650L/H, and I’ll buy a fluorescent light which will be require for 50 GL tank!
I know the question is look like an essay.. sorry abt that!
give me good info and tips! suggest a fish also so they don’t bring out the plants!
all suggestion are welcome!
