Sea-Monkeys with an air-pump and undergravel filter in its tank, is it dangerous for the sea-monkeys?
I am getting sea monkeys again and im not using the tanks they sell, like on the website, and I’m putting the sea monkey’s in a fish tank just because there is going to be more than just one pack of the “instant eggs”. The tank i am getting comes with an undergravel filter, and an air pump, and i was wondering if anyone knew if i put those items in if it would kill the sea monkeys. I know that a special pump is sold for the sea-monkeys (on the website) to blow air into the tank but its a serperate thing, i dont even know how to explain what it is. And this air pump (w/ air tubing & air stone) acts as the same thing but its an actual fish pump. And the filter is to keep the tank clean, but gravel will be on top of that. These will be in and on in the tank all the time pretty much. If anyone can help, i would really appreciate it. thx

Everything but the fliter is absolutely perfect for sea monkeys ( and please call them brine shrimp, sea monkeys is such a kiddish name lol) All you need for a tank like that with brine shrimp is the air pump and salt the filter will suck up any weak brine shrimp and or the eggs i have been running a 10 gallon brine shrimp tank for years ( i use them to feed my cichlids) with just the salt in the tank and an air pump
hope this helps
good luck!
Hi
Yes an air pump is OK and the extra oxygen generated by the air flow in the water will encourage more to hatch and thrive. But it is best not to use an air stone as the smaller bubbles can get caught in their legs and hurt them. Also you will need to throttle back the air flow with a little air valve you can buy from the pet shop so that it is just a trickle of large bubbles. If it is too vigorous it can cause them to bump into each other constantly and they will again become injured.
The under gravel will likely suck little ones into the gravel where they may not be able to get back out again so this is not recommended.
I hope this helps.
There is also some relevant info on my web site in the FAQs. please feel free to go and have a read.
