Saltwater reef aquarium setup quesiton!?

Here is my setup as of now, barely begin my setup up. I have about 10lbs of live rock that I got from a LPS and I didn’t cure it I just place it in my main tank. Add saltwater, a heater, a powerhead and my refugium is flowing with some macro algae in the refugium. Is this a good way to cycle a tank. I have live sand with live bacteria in it by nature’s ocean. it has a bio activ live aragonite with millions of bacteria in 1 bad. The bag says no waiting just add fish. But I’m leaving it out for now. Good or bad? or should i just place the live sand in it as well? and am I doing the correct way. meaning everything so far?

If you would like a deeper sandbed it’s better to add the sand before you have any livestock. Even the so called live sand will have some dieoff which will contribute to a mini cycle. Other than that your plan looks good. Just remember that this hobby takes a lot of patience the less patient you are the more money you will spend. HTH>

You will need to cycle for 2-4 weeks, even though the bag says it, you still need to cycle the aquarium. that isnt really live sand, but sand that has biological additives to it.

your live rock might be cured at the petstore, if not you will smell it in a few days. But i would let the tank cycling for 2-4 weeks and i would add a biological additive like seachem stablity.

Again i know it is hard, but you will have to wait 2-4 weeks beofre adding fish.

I am glad you left out the sand. Take it back to the store and get some regular old aragonite sand. Usually live rock from an LFS is pretty close to cured, if not fully cured. IT smells like rotten eggs if its not cured. But even if its not the live rock will cycle much quicker than the so called live sand. The live rock will also seed any regular old sand and the sand will become as live as the rock in about the same time. For no extra charge.
