Pink Kissing Gourami acting weird?

7 weeks ago I started an aquarium and made sure it was cycled and levels are were they should be. I have a 30 gallon tank at the moment and bought 2 Pink kissing Gouramis and a couple of tetras. Everything up till this point has worked out well. Just within the past 2 days, the little pink kisser is hardly swimming. He comes up for air and food but will lay back at the bottom. Through out the day it will graze for algae but not like normal. It rather stay stay at the bottom most of the day and it has me worried as this was a VERY active fish. I know that Pink Kissers require 55 gallons or more which I am going to upgrade the tank once they start to out grow the 30 gallon. My ph is 7.1, temp is 79, ammonia 0.0, nitrite 0.0, and very slight signs of nitrate. I have used aquarium salt (fresh water) and put in only the recommended amount. Every other fish in my tank is fine and happy as ever except the little kisser. I thought maybe is could be constipated but I haven’t watched enough to see if the little one is going to crap. I also have a aquaclear 3 stage 50 filter for the tank. At this point I’m looking for a educated solution as most of the people in the fish store don’t know what they’re talking about. They said that pink kissers only get to be about 4 inches and I just laughed and walked out the store never to return. I love my fish and worked very hard to provide them a nice home and need help from experienced people who may know the cause. I also feed the fish assorted foods throughout the week such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and flake food. Please anyone who may know lead me in the right direction here. Thanks to all the respond and reading my question.

it sounds like swim bladder disorder. i would get some treatment, but the desease is almost incurable.

Mmmm, swim bladder would be more characterized by varying altitude of swimming, not lethargy. Check for any and all possible signs of ANY infections first of all. Even the slightest discoloration of 1 scale can mean something. Altough to me it sounds like a very siomple problem. If it’s not, well at least you’ve done something nice for all of your fish. Kissers (and tetras, for that matter) both like very soft water. Your pH is ok, maybe a tad high, but as long as it’s not fluctuating you’ll be fine. Add some water softener over a few days and get back to me. =)

If you’ve discounted the usual, then the only thing that comes to mind is that there sexuality is beginning to appear and you have two males obviously this one is not the dominant one, just something else to watch. I can see nothing else that would attribute to this behaviour. All you can do is keep your eye on it to see if any other symptoms appear and watch for any chasing.
