My Otocinclus Catfish? Please Answer :p?

I have 5 Otos in my 10 gallon community tank. I’ve read a lot about catfish, and most of the sources say that catfish don’t have scales, so they are more prone to diseases then most other fish. Well, not that I don’t take care of my fish, but I don’t change the water very often and none of my Otos have ever been sick. Is it just that my filter is real nice? Or that these cats are just more hardy than other catfish?

Well for one, that’s actually too many Oto cats for a 10 gallon tank… And a ten gallon tank can hardly be a successful community. I wouldn’t have put more than 2-3 in there, and only as a clean up crew if there were a small algae problem.
I’ve never had problems with Oto cats that I’ve placed in my tanks, and all that I’ve heard is that they’re particularly sensitive to ammonia. As long as you do a 25% water change the first 4 weeks, and then a 25% water change every month after that you’re really alright.
it could be a combination of both. it is best to keep up with at least a small water change because they are more sensitive
