my nitrate, nitrite, and ammonia levels are a little high what should i do?
i have a tank and it has been running for almost 2 months and the nitrate, nitrite and ammonia levels are less than .20. (i have a 10 gallon tank with 7 fish) i went to petco to have them test my water and they said they were obviously high but i replaced 2.5 gallons of water, stirred up the rocks and got a level of about .20. ( i even stirred up the rocks about 5 seconds before i tested the water) after i put in 10 drops of the recommended teaspoon of ammonia detox and then tested my water and it was .20. i tested it the day after and the levels were once again the same, and i tested it yet again and got .20 whats going on? how can i lower the levels, or are they ok? please help i have already lost one fish due to this 
i have 2 zebra danios about 2 inches long, a baby guppy less than a half of an inch long, a placostimous about 2 inches long, a rosy tetra about 1 inch long and a male sword tail thats about 2 1/2 inches long. have you had good experience with ammonia detox?
and i have a pictus cat fish thats about 2 inches long
A temp fix is %50 water change every 24hours.
Your problem is proboly over stocking and over feeding
first of all stop using ammonia detox. those will give you a false positive reading on ammonia. second, the only way to get rid of the ammonia is to do partial water changes. You should do a 50% water change and do another 35% water change within 48 hours. this should take care of the ammonia in a 10 gal. tank. From then on, you should do more frequent water changes. Change about 50% of water once a week.
What kind of fish do you have in this tank? might be the overcrowding that’s causing the ammonia spikes.
I use a product called Stability from Seachem, it does a wonderful job of getting the levels good. I have Angel fish so they won’t make it if the water isn’t correct.
Has yuor tank cycled. Do a 50% water change every week until it goes down and put some benefitail bacteria suplement in every water change.Don’t use aonia stuff it doesn’t work I’m kinda going thru the same problem
