my goldfish are dying?
i have 3 angels, 2 tetra and 2 sharks, and 3 golfish. my 3 gldfsh are all sitting on the bottom of the tank they have a white filmy stuff on them and there tails look ie they are deteriorating. i tried doing a water change, changed the filter. i did have a fish dye and didnt relize it until this week i dunno if it deteriorated or what. so i thought the water change and filter change would help?? i also read goldfish ndont need a heater…could this be why??? how would i gradually get them into a tank wi cooler water?? but i have had these fish for a while so i dunno why all the sudden the water temp would make a difference??? and why it’s only my goldfish laying in the bottom??

they aren’t dead………yet
Maybe its coz they are ill Like a disease amongst goldfish
This is what’s commonly referred to as fin rot. Sometimes, it’s because the pH of the fish tank is too high (you can check the pH with dip sticks), but more commonly it’s the result of a bacterial infection due to stress. Treatment generally involves either :
1. giving antibiotics in the form of adding medication into the tank as a liquid anti-bacterial solution or giving them antibacterial pellets as food.
or
2. you can try the old salt bath treatment for 2-3 days. This may or may not solve the problem for you depending on the severity of the fin rot.
Fish killer. Take them out and put them into room temp water.
oh no! they have ICH! ICH is a parasite and kills fish. put some salt in your tank and it will go away. (1 teaspoon per gallon) salt will not hurt the. read this article.
ps you MUST tske them out. ich is contagous
Ah! My friends fish had this, i can’t remember what it’s called though.
After one turned completely white, it died.
She took it back to the store and they gave her a free treatment for it, the rest cleared up.
Do this ASAP, or they might die!
I don’t know if this is the answer or not, but I hope it will help.
Yes, goldfish are cold water fish, and don’t need a heater. I don’t know how warm the water would be before it would effect them negatively.
I was once told by someone who worked in an aquarium/fish store, that it’s not good to mix goldfish with tropicals, partly because tropicals have something in their systems that naturally clashes with the physical makeup of the goldfish, and that eventually all the goldfish would die.
I hope you find the answer.

goldfish should only be kept with other goldfish. they are cold water fish and don’t need a heater. it’s probably too hot for them, and it stressed them out. they are very sensitive to stress. now they have some sort of infection. I would seperate them and treat them with medication.
when i was little i always gave my goldfish drinking water(sterilized) and it lived for like 8yrs and it was like those fishes that where only 15cents
I had three goldfish to but its diffrent because one made it self go in the filter and one got its tail bitten by the other fish and one didnt get enough food. u need to change the to tap water and feed it in the moring and afternoon and night (hope this works!:D)
my best guess would be Ich. it’s actually a parasite that latches onto the fish. it can be caused by stress to the tank and upsetting the natural balance of the tank. (too many water changes, adding new fish too soon without acclimating them etc.)
What you would do is buy Ich medicine (can be purchased in any pet store that sells fish supplies) and add it to the water as directed.
And raising the water temperature should help as well.
that should tell you a little bit more about it.
First, you need to move your three goldfish to a different tank, one that is at least 55 gallons (they will get between 6-12 inches if they live). You are mixing coldwater fish with tropical.
Second, Your fish have a fungus and tail rot. Changing the water helps, but it’s not enough. Do a salt treatment (). Also, do more water changes because that will help.
Don’t change the filter again. You will put the tank through massive stress. Only change it again in a month or so, when you’re supposed to.
Goldfish are coldwater. I have a heater in my goldfish tank because I want the temperature to stay at a stable 72 degrees. Having them in too high of a temperature will shorten their lifespan and may promote illness in them.
I’m suprised that all your fish have not started this. Goldfish output a lot of waste. It can easily poison all your fish. You do need to treat both tanks (once you move the goldfish). Your goldfish are very sick.
See tetra-fish.com/forums for further help
They don’t have Ich. They have fungus and fin rot. Use Coppersafe or Maracide, and Maracyn-two. Hurry, they won’t last much longer. Then, get a tank set up and cycled for them and put them in at the same temp as they are now, to prevent shock. Then gradually turn it down a little bit every day until the heater is not kicking on at all. You should never mix tropicals and goldfish, they are different fish with different needs. Good luck!
Your goldfish are probably stressed by the water being too warm. Thats the main reason not to mix goldfish and tropicals. Warm water wont instantly kill them, but it wears them down over time,
The stress weakens them and leaves them vulnerable to all sorts of random diseases.
You need to get them into cooler water. DONT reduce the temp of your tropcial tank, that will just kill the tropicals. Then treat them with an anti-fungal medication and they may recover.
Changing the water = good
Changing the filter = Bad.
BTW, It’s NOT Ich, treating the tank for Ich will just stress all the fish, and not cure anything. There is a thing where Newbies call any fish disease Ich, where it’s a very specific parasite.
