Do a large water change 50% but do not change all the water. It removes too much bacteria and can cause the ammonia to spike.
You should never start over with fish in the tank, siphon the gravel and change 50 percent of the water.
How much fish food? Can you get 99% of it with a good gravel vac, or is it fish food soup?
If necessary, do the 100% water change. It will NOT cause the tank to loose cycle. Yes it may stress the fish a little, but not nearly as much as living in a soup of rotting fish food.
Keep the gravel and filter media wet, and don’t rinse them in un-conditoned tap water.(in case of chlorine)
I don’t suggest you make a habit of doing 100% water changes, but if you need to, you can usually get away with it.
