My fish keeps jumping into the filter?

I just set up a fish tank a few weeks ago and have been slowly adding fish. I recently added a loach. Last night I was watching all of the fish and they were all there. I walked away and heard a splash, I went back right away and could not find the new fish (the loach). I thought it had jumped out. I looked all over the tank and then all around it. I finaly came to the conclusion that my cat must have got to it before I could. I kept my eye out for it today and never found it. Then just a few minutes ago I see it swimming around again. I walk away, and i hear it jump again. I had seen it swimming around the filter so I decided to open it up and look in, and there it was. Is it safe for my fish to keep jumping in and out of the filter? How do I get it to stop? Its like its jumping up the little stream of water that flows out of the filter to get in.

hmmm sounds like your fish is trying to hide from the others..maybe he is being bullied and he has found that he can get in there to get away from them

This happened all the time with my guppies. They do it like you said, it is no real danger if it can get out of the filter, my guppies can’t so I have to search for them and take them out. Then I blocked all entrances that they could possibly enter through. I covered my inlet tubing with a thin sheet of cloth, and my exhaust tube with a spray bar. This worked with me, so you should try it, but watch your loach closely still because guppies are not as strong as loaches. Good luck!

i have a betta who was very curious about the filter I just put in for him
and they are jumpers so I was kinda scared
he sleeps behind the filter so I’m guessing ur fish and mine thinks its kinda safe?

Its not safe for them to keep jumping in and out
you never know if their scales are gonna get grazed
you know those plastic plants they sell?
those green single ones you are supposed to bury in your gravel to hold it cause it doesn’t come with a base?

stick it down the front of your filter
its okay cause it will graze against the cartridge but it filters water as well…just don’t add it as a tank decor
my betta stays away from the filter front now cause theres a green plant stickin out the front…no space to jump in

Since your loach is the only one jumping in and out, do you have a cave (Not castle) in your tank for the fish? If you haven’t, i suggest maybe purchasing one. It’ll give the loach something new to look around in.

Try adding some netting so the water flows through the net and in the tank, and if the fish jumps the netting will keep him in the tank. After awhile he will give up.

It probably just likes to explore or it feels comforted in the filter. My friend had the same problem with his clown fish but as long as they’re not in danger it should be okay. Secondly you cant train fish for the matter to you could just block the entrances if you really don’t want them back there.

I had a little guppy once that I thought was eaten by a larger fish…. 3 weeks later when I was changing the filters I found him in the filter. After that I had to keep taking him out of there every few days. He actually got a little hump in his back, but he lived for years.

I have 2 clown loach and they love to be in things… I have a little cave/tunnel for one and a small castle for the other. They are in there alot, sometimes lying down. One of them use to go upthe tower of the castle and stay for days… I always thought he was dead, and I would try to take him out and he would go right back there. They must like to feel confined sometimes while in the tank.
