My Betta Fish Is Staying On The Bottom Of The Bowl?

My betta fish is staying on the bottom of the bowl?
We cleaned out the bowl today. I’m thinking it might have been overfed what do you think? We set up a heater next to it in case the water was too cold. Yes, I know we have a bowl, okay, not a tank with a filter or underwater heater, I’m sorry but I don’t want to hear about that. I want to know what’s wrong. =[
Thanks!!!
We feed him pellets.
When you shake the bowl (we do that to make sure he’s alive :-/) he swims up to the top, gets air or whatever then comes back down to the bottom..
I added this the second time, I know..but that’s cause I had more information to add… (;

I’ve had two Betta Fish in my life and they tend to do that, from what I’ve seen. No big deal. One more thing, don’t let the water get too warm. Only allow it to be room temperature.
I don’t think u should worry ab. It. Mine tend to stick theirselves in between places to rest for a bit- maybe that’s wat urs is doing
You already know whats wrong where it is currently housed. That is a start. It’s good that you put a heater next to the bowl, but I do not think that really helped much. So:
Did you add dechlorinated water?
Is he old?
Is it possible that anything could have got into the water?
EDIT: Just read your other question. He is kind of old for living in a bowl. So maybe that is it.
Okay I’ll tell you what’s wrong. Ready…………………….
He’s living in a bowl! A heater next to the bowl is not going to help. You need a five gallon heated and filtered tank not a bowl. If you want to know why your fish is dying that’s why.

in the wild a Betta’s territory is only a few inches to a foothttp://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_…
a bowl or tank of only 1 gallon is suitable as there are some reports of larger tanks causing stresshttp://www.fishlore.com/Profiles-Betta.h…
life span is only 2-3 years with reports of up to 4-5 years but never longer
food should include betta bites, brine shrimp and blood worms
frequent water changes seem to aide in making the fish more lively
