is this an appropriate habitat for a ball python?

i have a 75 gallon aquarium that used to house frogs w/ live plants, a waterfall and a climbing wall. is this an appropriate habitat for a ball python? he’s not currently in it and i’m going to make some adjustments to the aquarium but is there a problem w/ having a waterfall and wet rocks as long as he has a second level that is dry?

Ball pythons aren’t arboreal so having a second level that is dry might be useless. Probably won’t hurt however. You’ve also got to clean the thing so keep that in mind.

depends on the size of the snake. A 75 gallon tank for a baby is way too much and will stress the animal. For an adult it would be OK. The waterfall wont hurt at all as they need some humidity but the second level may not get used as he is terrestrial.

OK too add something here. Its a 75 gallon tank. the waterfall will not be harmful at all. The tank is large enough to release excess moisture and but should be able to keep the moisture high enough for proper shedding. A waterfall for terrariums is small people. its not going to wet the cage

That size enclosure is a bit too large for even an adult ball python. Ball pythons should not be kept in a wet type set-up or, in an enclosure that has too much moisture in it. If this helps you, these are the types of environments where ball pythons can and can’t be found in the wild. They inhabit rocky outcroppings, open type forests that are fairly close to water and, are found living in high grassy fields inside burrows that used to belong to other animals. They are not found very often at all in closed forests and, are never found in tropical rain forests. Ball pythons will climb every now and then but, spend most of their time on the ground.

A 75 gallon would be too large for a baby but alright for an adult. A waterfall and second level shouldn’t really be for a ball python. They need a flat area where they can run around and you may need some logs or sticks so it can climb. At night they usually come out and climb around their enclosure. You will need a water bowl deep enough for the snake to fit it’s entire body in it, a hide where it can sleep and hide itself (on the side of the tank where the heat lamp is located), a thermometer and humidity meter to tell the temperature and humidity level of the tank, and of course a heat lamp for warmth and basking. A 60 gallon would be an OK size for your snake depending on the length and size of the snake. You can have a decoration plant in the tank if you want. Hope this helped you with your python.

Sounds great, but is it hot and humid enough?
