so i can put it in a aquarium and it wont harm the fish i am modeling my own background

once cured it fairly safe. but may give off all kinda crap when curring.
prefab is probably ok – not sure about your own
The material is mostly inert. It is the glues, etc. that make it worse.
Once you have molded your insert, let it soak in water for 2 days, rinse and dump and refill with fresh water Do this 3 more times (total of about a week and 4 changes of water). On the second and third, add 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt per 5 gallons of soak water. This will help leech out anything bad.
Then you are all set to safely use it. Overtime, it will breakapart and become brittle.
If you plan to coat or paint it the process is different.
