Is my new Black Moor Goldfish Ok?
So, a week or so ago, I saw a very unique looking black moor goldfish at Petsmart. I have never seen a black moor that looked quite like this one. His back is all black, but his belly, sides and eyes are a very stunning bright orange! I went back to the store today and bought him. He is my first fish in my new 75 gallon tank. I acclimated him by slowly adding tank water to a bowl that I placed him in while it floated above the tanks water line. My tank, by the way, is fully cycled and has zero ammonia or nitrites in it.
He seemed fine for the first hour, but now he is staying in one of the corners of a tank, swimming very close to the bottom. The only thing that I could think of that could make him be inactive is either the ph (which I doubt), or the temperature of the water. I live in a very warm area, and so my tanks temperature is at about 78 degrees. From what I have read, that temperature is way too high for him (or is it?). My tanks ph is 8.3, just in case that could be a factor.
Is my fish okay, or is he still frightened because there are no other fish in the tank currently? He has no sign of illness, and at the store he was swimming happily around the tank.
Any help would be appreciated!

78F degrees is too high for goldfish to live long lives. You may need to think about investing in a chiller (they are expensive). He might also be in the corner if the water current your filter creates is too high for him. Can you adjust your filter down a little? It usually takes a new fish a little time to acclimate to a new tank–they have to make sure no aggressive fishes will suddenly dart out and attack from behind a rock or whatever. Plus moving from one environment to a new one is always stressful. He may just be taking a breather. Just keep checking him to make sure he’s not coming down with something (from stress).
Black moors like their water about 70 degrees and ph 7. they love digging so it could just be doing what it likes best, also they have bad sight so it might be stuck so maybe try moving it out gently. If it looks stressed just turn the light off and leave it a day or so and let it get used to its new home
The water might be a bit warm for him, because he’s a cold water fish. Your pH is fine. Goldfish prefer pH above 7.5, and you shouldn’t be lowering it unless it is above 9.0.
Other than that, the only reason would be because he’s new to the tank and obviously timid and shy. He can be kept with other fancies, and that tank does have space for more fancies. But don’t add just any fancy. They are not good at competing for food. Maybe more Black Moor Goldfish. I would give him a little time and lower his temperature though.
By the way, its so nice to see someone properly caring for goldfish and not just sticking 3-4 in a bowl -.-…
water a tad bit warm but that isn’t a major problem. In the store he was not alone and activity of other fish is stimulating. Ph is also too high but he will adjust in a few days. Likely he just needs company
Goldfish are coldwater fish, and 78 degrees is for tropical fish. When first introducing a new fish, you need to keep the lights off, so it isn’t stressed. It should be fine later. You need to cool the water to about 60 F, though.
