Is it safe to give my betta fish BettaFix?

I think my betta fish might have a bacterial infection, but I’m not totally sure. If he doesn’t have any illness, and I give him the BettaFix medication, will it hurt/kill the fish?
So the BettaFix won’t get rid of the fish’s infection if it has one? Can I still put aquarium salt in his water, considering that he lives in a bowl? If so, how much salt should I use (there’s probably less than a gallon of water)?

It wont hurt or kill your Betta but, unless your fish has an illness its pointless using it

No, won’t hurt, BettaFix is the same as MelaFix, just sold in a smaller container geared towards bettas kept in bowls/small tanks for easier dosing. Not sure what kind of bacterial infection you think he has, but a lot of times just increasing the water changes helps a lot. Also, again not sure of your set up, bettas need a temp around 76-80°F, if it’s less then that, it’ll make him more prone to illnesses, so slowly increasing the temperature should help as well.

bettafix isn’t really medicine — its kind of like antibacterial body wash for your fish. you wouldn’t treat the flu with handsoap would you? if you think he has an infection i would advise using aquarium salt instead — one heaping tablespoon disolved per 5 gallons in his home tank and you can do separate baths for about 20 minutes in a solution of 1 tablespoon per gallon.

just wanted to add to above… this amount of salt is only untill you determine if he is “better” or that he was not sick at all.. once you go back to your normal routine with him, its normally only 1 TEASPOON per gallon. so don’t go on using that amount of salt forever k
and good luck with your little guy, i hope its nothing >.< good job looking out for him.

Ps.. you can always take a sample of your water to the pet store to get it analized, as much as it wont tell you if HE has an infection, sometimes bad water conditions can make the fish act sick and become sick. So even if he isnt sick yet, its better to prevent it now then treat it later =)
