I have a fish with Ich that is not responding to treatment!?
I have a parrot fish that has ich. I have been treating it for 5 days now and it is getting worse. I just noticed that even the sides of the aquarium now have spots of ich on them! I tried Quick Cure for 3 days and I am now treating with Super Ick Cure by API along with Aquarisol. Why isn’t this working? I have done partial water changes prior to dosing the tank.
I DID remove the carbon filter. I’ve had aquariums for 14 years and from all that I have seen this is Ick. I followed the directions, I’m not a retard. The directions say to do a 25% water change after 48 hours of dosing and then redose. This is an established tank that has ahd the same parrot fish in it for 4 years.
I actually did find some information about freee floating ich,a nd that it can attach to the walls of the aquarium. No change in my fish yet, but he’s hanging in there! I’m still treating the tank.

Take out the filter. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR HOW MUCH TO USE! Don’t change the water yet. And DONT buy more fish until the ich is gone.
I really don’t think that ich grows on the aquarium. If the treatment is not working, it is usually something else. There are many diseases that can affect fish. If it is a parasite, try Cupramine. Follow the directions closely. It can be found at an aquarium supply store. Here is a link about ich.

Are you sure it’s Ich?
Ich is a specific parasite and it does NOT grow on the walls of the tank.
So if you are using Ich cure to treat a fungal infection or something, thats why it’s not working.
If you can take a clear picture of the sick fish you may get some better advice on how to treat it.
Ian
remove anything with carbon in it then treat if not e-mail me I will help with my little thick
17 years experience with fish
OK im only working on assumption, but what should be done is;
#1 raise the temp to 27-28 Degrees 24hours before… (do this slowly and raise it by a degree every 4 hours) THis speeds up the release process by the parasite.
#2 remove the carbon filter
#3 Do a 25% water change before adding any treatments
#4 Add the treament as proscribed. I use eSHa Exit (anit white spot)
Note. Try not to do any water changes during the dosing periods, i.e. if the treatment you are using is for three days or however long.
Most medication does not kill the ich until it begins to hatch and that is why you should raise the temp. This help speed up the process.
Unfortunatly some fish don’t work well with treatments but if you persist hopefully the ich should subside.
Good luck
It couldn’t be ick on the tank walls, the white specks that you see on the fish are actually a kind of callous built up around the ick parasite, not the parasite itself.
I would treat them with a strong antibiotic in combination with the ick medication, to cover all your bases and prevent a secondary infection.
I recommend Maracide and Maracyn in combination.
Edit: I’d also be a little wary of using two ick meds at the same time, isn’t that an overdose?
