you could have 6 or 7 FEMALE bettas. NO MALES. female bettas can go with some other little fish too. just do some research.

The first thing to research is what kind of water you have. Whether you’re using tap or well water, it’s best to find out firsthand how acidic or alkaline your water is. You can purchase a PH test kit at any pet store for around $5-$10. From there, you can determine which fish do best in your water parameters. From those fish, decide whether you want more peaceful fish or more aggressive highly active fish. Once you’ve decided which fish you want, research which species of that particular fish do best with each other. Read up on how large your fish grow. 72 gallons seems like a lot, but if you have a highly active fish that grows to a foot long or more, it’s really not that much. Small fish may seem like the answer, but many need to be in large schools to be healthy and happy. Also, before adding any fish to the tank, read up on cycling. It may be done with or without fish, but before you purchase your dream fish, you want to be sure the water is how it should be to eliminate any risk of killing off your prized investment.
