how to use a siphon gravel cleaner without sucking it the end?

the thought of having to put my mouth on something that cleans fish tanks is disgusting so i need a method that works and does not allow me to suck the end of the tube.

yYou aren’t suppodsed to suck it. You move it up an down an it starts sucking for you. I have even used one to get rain water out of my boat.

Fill it with water point it at an angle then start doing a up an down motion and it will start after a while.

    Good luck

    HERE a link of it

yah, like the first person, you dont suck with your mouth, you move it up and down in the take really fast and alot and it should pick up all the dirt and poop without sucking up the gravel, i had one that sucked up gravel too once, so i went to the petstore and got a new one, my tank conditions were sooooo much better after that.

put both the ends of siphon in water such that its completely filled with water no air bubbles in it then remain the siphon in water and put the other end to the bucket.

2nd way is that u hit the siphon pump on water gravel 3 or 4 times with other end in the bucket the water will start to flow. use the first method only if the 2nd one does nt seem to work.

That is disgusting lol, and you shouldn’t do that. I cringe everytime I hear about, read, or see someone do that. In fact, if you ever have any open cuts or sores on your arms or hands, you should not put them in the tank at all. There is a rare but pretty serious disease that can be passed on to humans from fish tanks-fish tb. It’s not “tb” in the human sense, but it’s pretty nasty from what I’ve read of the few people that have caught it.

What I do when I use my manual gravel vacs, put the small end in the bucket, fill up water from the tank in the larger end. Once the tube is all full, cover the small end with your thumb to keep some water in the tube, then refill the tube all the way full with water-all the way to the top of the larger end. Submerge the large end and then face it down, and remove your thumb from the small end….that should be enough to start the sucking action. Basically, the whole thing needs to be full of water for it to start working.
That’s the easiest way I’ve found to use it.
