How often do I need to clean my Betta’s 2.5 gallon tank?

I just got a new Betta fish yesterday and I was wondering how often I should clean my 2.5 gallon tank. I have been doing some research and some of the websites say every 2-3 days a full water change. And some of the sites say that I can clean the whole tank once a week. I really don’t know which one is right, can someone help me?????

Full water changes EVER are a bad idea. Your best bet is to do a 25% water change once a week, that is if the tank is properly filtered. NEVER do a 100% water change, as you will lose all the bacteria neccesary to the tanks biological cycle

    Heres what I do:
A partial water change of 25-40% weekly.
Then a full clean every few months.
I age and treat the water before hand and use some of the old water after a full clean.
Be sure and don’t over feed and a full tear down is limited. Try some siphoning of waste products every few days and the tank will stay cleaner. I did away with gravel and just use weighted plants to decorate with. It doesn’t look bad and it’s easier to clean.

Never change 100% of the water. You should be doing 10-25% water changes once a week.

You only do more frequent water changes if he’s in a small bowl, but since you have him in a 2.5 gallon tank, that’s fine.

Also, never take your fish out while cleaning the tank…

If the betta is the only fish in the tank, you don’t need to overkill it – they are not very messy fish. Changing the water every 2 days is more stressful, and changing all the water at once is too. That advice is for people who keep their fish in little cups or bowls.

If you can change half of the water once per week, that will certainly keep things clean and healthy, assuming the betta is the only one adding to the waste. If you overfeed then it’s a different story.
