How much would a 55 gallon freshwater aquarium cost me?

I’m looking to get a oscar, How much would it cost for the decor, gravel, water treatments, cleaning instruments, water conditioners, etc. Also what are the dimensions (LxWxH) of a 55 gallon tank?

it’ll cost a lot.. if you can buy a used tank GO FOR IT! i bought a used 55 gal with stand for 80 bucks, brand new it would run me over $300
if your going to use a filter that’s also going to cost a lot.. because most filters suck, i had a 70 gallon filter and that did absolutely nothing, you’ll probably have to get atleast a 100 gallong filter or so for it to make and actual difference in water quality. all the conditioners and stuff will probably cost 30-50 bucks.. plants and decoration are also expensive.. so that depends on your taste.. all im saying is that petco had some artificial plants for 18$ and some medium sized structures for over 50$
total bill can easily rise above $500.. probably closer to $700 depending on how into it you get.
just one tip, Oscars are great fish and they grow large.. mine is in a 55 gallon right now and i think she looks to big for it : / i think a 75 gallon would be more suiting. Oscars are kinda picky and mello depending on their personality… have you ever tought about the more aggressive cousins? like a yellow devils or convicts? lol
i have just done one myself with a 280liters. i think 55gal is 220 liters
i suggest get an external canister filter eg fluval 405 about ($235ebay)
heater 300 watt ($40 ebay)
gravel (look into what oscars feel most comfy with sand ect)
gravel pump $20
conditioners 15
food ? oscars eat live food aswell
ph test kit 10$
air pump $20
note all in australian $$$
make sure you have your tank set up with filter working ect for atleast 1 month before u put your fish in so the water has the correct bacteria balance in it
Walmart is the best place to go for this. It is about 150 dollars. Very cheap for this size tank.
Go on http://www.craigslist.com and look on there. You will find a cheap used one in your area that you can pick up.
