I am having to rush and setup a salt water 10 gallon hospital tank. One of my pajama cardinals has a nasty parasitic infection = ( I know to fill the tank with 100% water from my regular tank and not to add live rock but am unsure how much of my live aquarium sand to add??

a 1 inch base is good also just some tips have no lights in the tank and add some pvc tube for hiding spots if you have alot of light already in the room use a towel to cover the tank.
don’t…
the treatment will kill anything benefitial in the sand, and it will absorb ertain drugs, lik copper sulphate, making it harder to accurately dose, especially in such a small tank
a bare bottom tank, sponge filter, heater, and a few plastic ornament/PVC tubing/flowerpot would be all you need
you can fill the QT tank with regular tank water, you just can’t take the QT water to the main display…
It would be fine not to add any live sand. Waste and detritus can build up on the bottom and actually make the healing process longer. Make sure you keep the water aerated and moving at all times. Add pvc piping to make your fish feel safe and maybe a decoration or two -(thoroughly cleaned). Also follow the directions on the medication exactly to ensure best results. A varied and healthy diet can also ensure the fish gets better faster.
