How many saltwater 3-inch fish can you keep in a 30 gallon?

Im getting a 30 gallon fish tank tomorrow from a friend of mine.. Ive already got a 30 gallon freshwater tetra tank that i take care of very well and im pretty experienced in the freshwater area.. but ive been thinking about starting a saltwater tank. But before i get it started ive been researching it alot and i would like to know how many approx. 3inch fish will fit in a 30 gallon.

Ive been thinking about getting some kind of clown fish (percula maybe), a Benggai Cardinalfish, a royal gramma, a yellow assessor, and a blue assessor. And a decorator crab and/or a peppermint shrimp.
Well those are my selections, but i doubt i will be able to have all of them in one tank.
Maybe eventually get into corals once i learn how..
What do you think? Thanks.

If you stick with the small clown, like an ocellaris or a percula, that should be OK, as long as you have live rock. You’d be pretty stocked on fish, but could eventually add like a scooter blenny or mandarin once the tank is running for a while. (They dwell on the rock and there should be plenty of room, but need a very established and stable tank.)

You cannot keep coral well with the decorator crab. They also get rather large. My advice: Don’t get him! They also often have sponge on them, and that sponge can die when exposed to air, and poison the tank.

Go with the peppermint shrimp and some skunk cleaner shrimp. They will keep the tank and the fish clean.

You’ll also want a variety of snails. Get some turbo and nassarius snails.

Also, a hang on back refucium with caulerpa does WONDERS for a tank. If you can, lookinto getting one. They can cost a hundred ro two hundred dollars, but are totally worth it! Get one with a built in skimmer for best results, adn to save money, rather than just getting a skimmer, or adding a skimmer on.

I commend you for researching before just jumping in.Many fish are lost because of the lack of knowing how to set up a tank.I have a salt water tank .30 gallon tall with 6 sides in it is 2 Benggai C.
1 Blue yellow tail damsel 1 Blenny 3 green reef gromes and I still room for 3 or 5 more fish.
