How many baby guppies?
by Aquaboy on Friday, June 18th, 2010 | 2 Comments
I have a 10 gallon tank and another tank that I don’t know the size of. I think it is 1-2.5 gallons. I don’t have anything in it right now. In my 10 gallon I have 2 neon tetras, 1 male guppy, 3 female guppies, and 3 guppy fry (3 weeks old) in a breeding tank floating in it. When they are old enough to be released would I have too many fish in there?

What I did when I was in your situation is put the fry in a 2.5 gallon tank. I got a small filter that was very gentle and an artificial plant. Feed the fry one medium size flake everyday until they are too big to fit into any other fish’s mouth. Then you can release them into your 10 gallon tank. Sounds like you have all community type fish, so I think they would be fine in your fish tank.
Good Luck ^_^
In my opinion, just fill the tank with bushy plants, some which the baby fry could hide in. Cover the tank with a blanket, leave the females swimming around, and in this case just take the blanket off when you feed them. If you cover it then the females would most likely be calm and soon have their babies, there is lots of places for the fry to hide in so i wouldnt worry – renember guppies have 10-30 guppies per round. Seperate the guppies when the tank is crowded while the newborn guppies would be about big enough so they could not be eaten by other fish,
I know this isn’t the best of answers, but I always try.
Good luck
