How many angelfish can fit in a 110 gallon tall aquarium?
Question by Christopher: How many angelfish can fit in a 110 gallon tall aquarium?
Can anyone who knows about freshwater angelfish recommend how many angels I can stock into a 110-gallon “tall?”
Just setting this big boy up, need to get it ready and start cycling it first, so the animals are a ways off – but when it’s up and running I’m envisioning a planted “angel tank.” Probably do some cories, pleco, and “durable” tetras as well – but all that’s going to be secondary to angels as the main focus of the environment.
I know pairs in spawning always become an issue – would I have room for multiple pairs in a tank this size with relatively few foreseeable problems? I ask that with a grain of salt, of course.
Thanks.

Thanks for all the informative help so far, folks. I should clarify – I was thinking about a bristlenose pleco, or something of that “dwarf” pleco variety, not a common pleco. Are bristlenose okay, or are they probably not a good option either? I’ve heard of adult angels eating otocinclus before, and I’ll need something for algae control. Thanks again.

in my 55 gallon i keep 3 so to the fact you can keep about 7 but only if this were a normal 110 gallon tank since this is tall you have less surface area for water to oxygen transfer so i’d say 5 no angels aren’t as aggressive as some say as long as you keep them well fed and clean water(doesn’t need to be clear) they will be fine with each other also they like to explore that’s why you’ll need driftwood in the tank, may i suggest some dwarf ciclids to be your angels tank mates they get along fine and can be come friends

In a nice large tank like this you can fit a group of angels, but it’s really hard to give exact numbers. Also, you can start off with more juveniles.
Adding that grain of salt, you can start of with about 8-10 young ones with the intention of keeping about 6 adults in the end.
Cory cats are great addition, but I advise avoiding plecos. They are not great algae eaters, need to be fed additional foods, have big appetites, and contribute a lot of waste to the tank.
A tall 110 ten gallon is the same dimension as the 90 and 75 gallon. Stocking levels for the angels would be the same for all 3 sizes.
If i were you i’d get at least 10 angels… most definitely get cories. DO NOT GET PLECO. They are nighmare to keep in planted tank. They will actively eat leafs of any vegetation and uproot rest of it. I do not mention that some of algae eates do suck slime of angels discus etc eventually killing them. Suitable tankmate for large pleco probably only large oscar. Larger tetras could be nice addition as well. If I would be starting tank like that i would do it like that:
1. Cycle tank.
2. Introduce some tetras and cories.
3. Introduce plants ( anubias, amazon swords etc)
After plants give enough hiding spots get angels. Check that they are same size or they will bully small ones to death.
Good luck
