How long does it take for ammonia levels to rise?

I’ve been doing a fish less cycle adding fish food for 4 days and the readings still say 0.25 ppm…I also added stress zyme last week. Does it take a while for it to go up? And how much should it go up to for me to stop feeding the tank? Do i cut the feeding in half when the ammonia drops to 0? The water is also a dirty greyish color but not cloudy…..is this good during the cycle? Please answer these in order because i never get a full answer on here. Thanks ![]()
hi well i’v only used stress zyme once so is it too late now? do i have to do a huge water change? this whole this is so stressful i always do everything wrong!! I just want fish…

At the most it should take a week for the ammonia to rise. Keep feeding the aquarium the same through out the fish less cycle. Its ok for the water color to change it is probably a bacteria bloom.
i would stop using the stress zime it removes ammonia and nitrite from the tank, so basicly you are not even cycling your tank it is not getting anywhere. after a few days of just putting fish food and letting it rot you should see it sky rocket.
i would just start over because you put the stress zime your tank bactria will never be as strong as it should be. do a 50% water change and just keep doing flake food till you see your levels go to 0ppm. your nitrate will never go to 0ppm but it should be as close as you can to 10ppm
