How do you breed shiners for fishing bait?

I have a 125 gallon aquarium and i would like to breed some red shiners in it. I am wondering how to breed these fish. Some of the information I need is what do these fish eat, what water temperature is best, how long it takes to breed, how many to start out with, and what species of shiner is best for a beginner (red/gold)
This is for my own little lake in New Jersey. There are no laws here about putting a new species in the water.

Great idea until you use them and then get caught for potentially putting an illegal species into the water system, I know that most places in the uk have now made it illegal to use live baits because of this reason. As a lot of people were using goldfish or bitterlings.
