How do you attach a water bottle/hammocks/levels to an aquarium for mice?
I’m thinking about getting a pair of female mice, and want to keep them in a 10 gallon aquarium (I’ve heard of mice escaping from every wire gauge imaginable). I’m not exactly engineering savvy, and can’t figure out how to attach a water bottle in there since they’re all built for wire cages in mind, right? Velcro or a holder or something?
Same with hammocks and other level-adding items. I have a lizard hammock for my juvenile bearded dragon and that holds up… most of the time (fatty!)… with suction cups. Would that hold up to a pair of mice, or would I need some other alternative? I would want to be able to provide for my mice the same advantages of a multi-level wire cage while still keeping the added security.
Pics of your setups would be much appreciated.
I never said I was using sawdust. I was going to use kaytee softsorb or carefresh. I know about the phenol problems as well.
And I’ve heard from many rat/mouse sites that aquaria are fine, especially since mice can escape from just about any wire spacing, especially when young. That is from AFRMA itself.
Tank toppers are right out. At least the kind they sell around here. It has way too long of a drop, and the bars pretty spaced out. I can’t order anything online.
clothes hangers, you can bend them to the desired length/ shape you need!
STRijg
a holder or….SUPERRRRR GLUUUUUUUUUUUUUUE XD
You should buy a water bottle holder and for the hammock you could use hooks and string to the top of the cage
u poo on them and feed them 2 snakes lol joking u have to by a speicial hook at a pet store and put the watter bottle in it or u can make your own out of something that is bendable like pipe cleaners or something! but there are no mice in the world that can get that small to go through that little whole!
Not all water bottles are made for wire cages. You can get the kind that stick to glass or hang over the top of the cage, You can get them anywhere that sells a decent amount of pet supplies. When I was using an aquarium I attached everything with duct tape. Mice might chew through that. But you can always try and see if they do or use the tape on the outside and fasten string or rope to what you are trying to hang up.
Hello,
really you shouldnt keep mice in a glass tank, as they can’t get much air or oxygen.
And keeping them on sawdust is the worst you can do to small rodents. as the dust gives them lung problems.
the best cage for a mouse would be a good sized one, with small gaps between the bars, that way the mouses bedding wont go all funny due to the lack of air cerculating about.
i have got 4 fancy pet rats, and i know you have got mice, but they need simlar needs.
if you go on the fancy rats website they have lots of information on cages, and all you need to know about rats.. i’m sure theres a good mouse site out there too, but that will get you started.
I have just searched on google for Mouse Care and it’s come up with some great information for you.
I hope this helps, from Sam..
the links are below.
buy one of those mesh like covers and put a paperclip onto the item you want to hang and attach it to the cover. It works, I do the same thing with my hamster and mouse.
I love rodents!!!!!
for the water bottle ask a crafty person to make a holder out of metal clothes hangers for extras get a paper clip put it on the top of the cage then tie some string to it thread it through the top then tie it to one end of the object then do that again now for the levels those are called toppers they are EXPENSIVE or u can make a wooden frame then put wire mesh on it
For multi levels you can buy a shower caddy with suctions that go in the corner or on the wall. Make sure they can climb into and out of it with string nets, plastic ladders, wooden ladders or sticks, hideys etc.
