two magnets and a rag-
Yes hexagon shaped base. I had one and it was great. Get a reverse osmosis filter at your kitchen sink for your own drinking water. You will find that water invaluable for replacing what you have to siphon out.
how big is your tank?
Well I would siphon half the water out. Then get a squidgy and wipe the sides down to get rid of the algae that’s in there. And depend if your tank is on a tall stand or if its just tall, you may need to stand a stool. I know i have to when i clean mine and I’m 6’2. Or you can use a towel but if you have sand in your tank make sure it doesn’t get in the towel. Because if you have a acrylic tank it will scratch it up. Good luck with cleaning it.
There are so many varieties of filters on the market that you can definitely find something that will be suitable for your tank. You might consider an internal filter. There are several sizes to choose from so I’m sure you could find one suitable for your tank. They stick to the side of the glass underwater and the output produces a nice current to agitate the surface or you can direct the flow anywhere in the tank for aesthetic purposes (or if you’re housing corals in a saltwater tank it’s great for redirecting currents over them).
