How big can a fan tail goldfish get? ?

I was recently asked by a friend to watch Ollie my friends giant (to me) goldfish while she was on vacation. I agreed and while on vacation my friend was involved in an accident (she was not driving she was on a bus) and was killed. Now I have Ollie as a permanent pet but I have no idea how big he/she will get. Its in a 29 gallon tank with my 2 angel fish bettas balloon mollies and a big plecostomus (sp?). The gold fish is at least 6 or 7 inches long and about 7 months old. I’m worried about it getting bigger as I have no place to put it and I can’t afford a bigger tank.

12 inches, a whopping one foot long. it only grows to be this big if you care for it properly. your a lucky one. hope your fish is healthy and safe, P.S. they can live up to 45 years in your condition.
As big as the container it is kept in.
Hes probably at about his limit. But goldfish are coldwater. He needs another tank. Being all your other fish are tropical.
Although goldfish are coldwater, they can tolerate warmer waters. I keep goldfish in a koi pond and they do just fine in the Texas summer months and can get pretty big. Having tankmates and being in a more enclosed environment should hinder growth. I had a 30 gallon hexagon with 4 fancy goldfish, and they grew very slowly until I tossed them into my pond.
I think he’ll be fine in the tank, just make sure you got plenty of filtration as goldfish and plecos can really dirty the water.
My condolences for your friend.
In a lot of cases goldfish do not stop growing. As long as they have good conditions and plenty of room. They will keep getting bigger. If this fish is 6 or 7 inches long then it is most likely more than 7 months old. Goldfish usually grow about 4 inches in a year. And live long life’s.
I am sorry to learn about your friend.
This will depend on what kind of goldfish ollie is. If he is a fancy (round egg shaped body with flowing fins), chances are he is older than 7 months if he is 6-7 inches. He is closer to the two year mark and is about as large as he is going to get. If he is a comet (longer thiner with thin head large V shaped tail fins) he could get as large as 12 inches.
A picture would help. If he is a common, looks more like a koi with no whiskers, he could get much larger. (not likely to in this tank so no worries)
Keeping him with angels are fine as long as the water temps are kept for your angels. Goldfish may be cold water fish but also do fine in temperatures that are warm.
Good luck with ollie and as always we are always here to help if you get stuck.
In a 29 gallon tank about 12inch if you get a bigger tank they will grow to about 15inch.
