Hi i am buying a 4x2x2ft tank, and getting it set up today woohoo… I have decided to get a lionfish, puffer fish & picasso triggerfish for my tank, plus possibley one/two other of the big fishes… now the guy at the aquarium told me i couldnt put crabs, snails, starfish etc in the tank with these as they will be eaten… Does anyone know of a algae eater that can be put in with them?

What kind of Lionfish and Pufferfish? With the Trigger in there, that has ruled out pretty much everything so it will be down to you to remove any unsightly algae with things like mag scrapers.
The trigger fish is a bottom dweller, and with its aggressive manor it may attack an algae eater if you put them together. If you are really determined to try, get something similarly sized or larger.
First you don’t need an algae eater in a salt water tank. You actually want certain algae to grow. Also, Caring for the tank properly and you will not need an algae clean up crew.
Cerith snails (burry in the sand and help with compaction problems) will feed on surface algae as will the Trochus snails.
I have never had any of my pork puffers eat any of my snails. Keep your puffer well fed and he will leave them alone. Be sure you have rock for him to crunch for his teeth.
You can house 1 angle or even a tang, however in this tank (about 120 gallons) you need to be careful as to what you choose here. As with what type of puffer. The map puffer is very peaceful especially with other fish as is the porc. Triggers as well. Choose your fish carefully. Many puffers will go after your lion’s fins for no other reason than they think of them as food. You could have a disaster here. Porc’s are very peaceful as far as housing with the right tank mates. Niger triggers are great for community tanks.
I would suggest going to saltwaterfish.com and exploring various fish.
I would consider an angle that is larger than your lion
