Help with freshwater aquarium?

I have a freshwater aquarium with fine sand. It looks beautiful but the bad side is that the water continuely gets cloudy. I can’t keep the water clear. At first I thought it was a bacterial bloom but, after doing everything that would have gotten rid of the bacterial bloom and losing 9 fish to, I’m not too sure. I’m about ready to go to take out all the sand and go to gravel (something which my hubby isn’t too happy about). Some help please….

Did you already cycle the tank before adding the fish? If you didn’t cycle the tank, that explains the cloudiness in the water and the loss of the fish. I suggest starting over…cycle the tank…especially if you’re going to add gravel as the brand new gravel won’t have any bacteria.
Gravel is your best bet. If the sand is clouding up the water, the fish will not be able to breathe through it. Do you have a water filter? Maybe you need a stronger one as well…I never used sand in any of my tanks, always gravel!!!! Good luck, post the results after you do it
If the tank hasn’t been cycled it will continue to be cloudy and the fish will die. The sand shouldn’t be a problem unless you have something that is stirring it up.

its probably because your ammonia is too high. that means that theres to much poop in the water. make 25% water changes daily to get levels down to 0.0. also “Start Zyme” worked for me. it unclouded my water in only a day!!

The sand is probably what is clouding the water. I had a freshwater tank and I tried sand but, it too clouded the water so I changed to gravel. You can get gravel that is realy small and sand colored so it will look just like sand. You should also take a sample of water with the sand to your local petstore (fish store) and have them figure it out.
