Help me start a planted aquarium?
I have no idea what to do. I already ordered the substrate and CO2 system so I can not back out of it now. I do not have the money to by a one of the fancy T5 fixtures. I already have the aquarium which is 29 gallons and it is 18 inches high.
What type of lighting should I get. Can I get regular single tube lighting fixture and get a florescent aquarium plant strip. Or do I have to get a double tube florescent lighting.
ANOTHER ? The lighting is a twin tube does that mean I have to get the fluorescent bulbs that are joined together or can I get two separate bulbs.
The lighting is 60 Watts each for the double tube lighting fixture but they are not the planted aquarium bulbs, will that be ok for a planted aquarium.

Just stick with the plants that are low to moderate lighting and you should be fine to grow those plants. Just stay away from the plants that need high lighting because those are the plants that need the fancy T5 lighting.
go here . They are very good at helping beginners and you learn a lot.
Btw if you are getting Co2 you need moderate to high lighting because it is useless on low lvl lighting
You have two types of planted aquariums, you have low tech and high tech aquariums, high tech are like those takashi amano type tanks and low tech are those tanks that you see that don’t have those more hard to take care of plants. You have all that you need almost for a high tech tank. If you bought a twin tube that means that you have to buy 2 separate bulbs. Those T5 lighting fixtures in my honest opinion are a waste of money unless you intend on starting a reef tank. You already have all you need except for gravel I recommend ADA Aqua soil. Also when you research the types of plants you want you have to know what the lighting levels are, low is 0-1.5 watt per gallon, medium is 1.5-3 wpg and high is 3< wpg. You have over 4 wpg which you can grow some of the more difficult plants but you have to be careful because algae will definitely grow in these types of tanks. Good Luck!!!
