Gerbil Split Cage method?

Soo I have a gerbil, i’ve had him for about a year and i wanted to get another. What’s a good way to make a split cage? I have an aquarium and wire mesh but i was wondering how to make it?
Awhile back i bought another gerbil for him so he’d have a friend but he died and when i set up the split cage i just taped the wire in the cage it was hard and time consuming everytime i had to clean it so if you have pictures of your split cage or how you built yours or whatever can you tell me or show me?? i’ve looked at sites but idk.
Thanks =]
Thanks so much! yeah i use tape to hold it down cause my gerbil likes to bang it against the glass and annoy me lol but again thank you sooo much=]

    this woman explains with thorough instructions and pictures. not all sites are to be trusted (i’m sure you know that) but this seemed legit and properly constructed. that is impressive that you are splitting the cage! most people just let their hamsters eat one another.
    and you know never to use a rubber band to help hold the water bottle or keep a cage closed. your hamster will chew on certain materials that it cannot digest and die. that’s silly but i feel like it’s my obligation to mention it to everyone after seeing so many gerbils die from that.
    good luck!
