For treating ick, can I use Instant Ocean instead of Aquarium Salt?

Hello. Before I treat ich in my freshwater tank, I wanted to make sure that Instant Ocean and the Aquarium Salt you hear people say to use for ich is the same thing. Thanks!

aquarium salt is the best solution for a fish disease. make sure you read the directions first. you can get ich cure but it usually end up fatal for your fish. i have never heard of instant ocean i would stick to aquarium salt its cheap and you know it will be safe
instant ocean is used to make salt water and aquarium salt is used for fresh water fish so I wouldn’t recommend using Instant Ocean for them
i usually use salt because of its acidity. this will help kill ick before spreading
Don’t use instant ocean. And aquarium salt is only part of the treatment of ick. Ich is generally caused by poor water conditions or other factors increasing the stress level of fish. Be sure to perform partial water changes through out the treatment process. I also find its best to use products like Ridick or Ick away. Anything with malichite green as the active ingredient will work. Be sure to discontinue the use of any charcoal filtration. Otherwise the medications will not work.
Doc. WellFish’s aquarium salt is what you want to use (or other brand) of aquarium salt. Aquarium salt is cheap and it’s a good idea to have a box on hand for moments like these. Do NOT use instant ocean!! Instant Ocean is synthetic “salt” and it contains various trace minerals and even pH buffers.
Aquarium salt is different and it won’t treat ich totally. You need a product such as Maracide to treat it and get rid of it. Follow the directions carefully and if it isn’t gone after the 5 days then do it again.
Ich is highly contagious and will infect everyone in the tank so treat the whole tank not just the infected fish in a separate tank.
