Fluorescent GLOFISH CAUGHT IN the ACT (MUST SEE) Spawning

At about 2:10 min. you’ll see they’re really getting into it. I was surprised I was able to catch them for a long period of time in the spawning process. This was unlike other times in that it was in the afternoon instead of morning. I have been seeing a pattern I haven’t paid attention to before in that the female will dip her head down a little and swim in a more gerky type manner when they are ready to start spawning. Don’t think I will be able to catch another one like this with this amount of activity. These particular glofish are from the second generation of fry. They seem to be more active than the original parents that I had in the other videos.

the glofish site only mentions legality in ca and nowhere else. i would not worry about breeding them , trading, or selling limited numbers in ca. the law, prevents them from marketing the glofish in ca and is really aimed way above the glofish. it is not something that was specifically made illegal like piranhas, snakehead ect, instead it fell under a pre existing genetic alt law. they could most likely even get the approval but it is very costly with legal fees ect.

@TheFreshPeddler They are illegal to barter, trade, sell or breed your own. Got mine in Indiana. Thanks for commenting!

@jadabird77 – arent they only illegal in california? cool video

  4. TheFreshPeddler says:

@Warcraftdude15 -nope they are just danios with a fluorescence gene that was injected into embryos and now the gene is passed on to the fry. by looking at them though one would assume that they are sterile or all males or females to prevent people from breeding them.

They are illegal to breed, barter, sell or trade. They lay up to 250 eggs a day and with water changes is how I managed to find some in a bucket. Most of the eggs get eaten. It’s not a easy project to keep them to adult size. I only have 5 I now have in with the original parents. Thanks for commenting.

are you saying it is possible to breed glo fish?

My little sister got 5 glofish a few days ago and their do this “mating thingy” and I have no clue what to do. I don’t want to kill the little babies =[ and I have a little 1.5 gallon but it dosen’t have a heater so what do I do wahh!!??

  8. jadabird77 says:

They probably are if swimming in this pattern. Most of them get eaten though and being they are eggs, it’s difficult for most to survive. They can not be put in a breeding trap and the like. Thank you!

Thank you very much, and you welcome!

That would interrupt the spawning putting them in a different environment. The only way to catch them would be during a water change. Some put the water from the water change in the bathtub and then there might be the possibility to see them there. They are the size of a eyelash when hatched if not smaller and very delicate. Most will get eaten by parents or other fish.Being egg layers, you would just have to let nature take it’s course. . Thanks for commenting!

okay so my pink/red glowfish are doing the same thing in my 15 gallon tank…they are currently living with ballon mollies and corys…do you think I should seperate them into their own 10 gallon?

Hello, There are 3 videos, 1 by themselves and 2 with parents of the babies. Check out my other videos. Thank you for commenting!

The only way I can tell is the females are a little fuller in belly area, males are thin and sleek looking. Males will do most of the chasing in spawning. It’s hard to tell with two different colors. Whichever has the more dominate gene would determine the color. It will be one or the other color, not a marble or mix of the two. Hope this helps. how can you tell the difference between males and females in the glofish? and what happens if 2 fish of different colors breed? do the colors mix?

wow, thats awsome. I have 3 glofish myself in a 3gal tank(yea, i know im a noob, lol) and i am about to by a 10gal tank with a hood and plants and all that cool stuff. I was wondering how do you get them to mate, i have 2 females and 1 male (i think) and lots of hiding places and rocks at the bottom and i just dont see anything happening :(

  19. jadabird77 says:

The Glofish is already a variation of the zebra danio. I don’t have control over the breeding. I just find a few every time I do a water change. I do have at least 3-4 glofish in my tank at a time and groups of small rocks besides the regular gravel in the tank. The will lay eggs in rocks/gravel. Most will get eaten however. I just keep what ends up in the bucket separate until they are big enough to put back in with my other fish. Thanks for commenting.

thats rad how do you breed glosfish??

and is it possible to breed a glowfish and a zebra danio?

  21. jadabird77 says:

They are almost impossible to see since they are so small. They are clear with a black around the middle. When I do a water change, at the time I can not see them in the tank or even the already hatched fry. It’s not until they go from tank to bucket and then the live fry can be seen, but the eggs are easy to miss. Thank you for commenting.
