My old Whisper 5-15 stopped working after about a year of service. So I decided to get a larger size as a replacement.
Installed this Whisper EX20 today. It’s very quite – so far. If that changes, I’ll change the review. The tab indicator requires a bit of force to activate, just read the instructions.
So far so good.

My old filter was getting a little noisy so I decided to replace it. When I got the “Whisper” filter on my tank, it was LOUDER than the old filter! I recommend this filter to you if (1) you’re deaf, (2) hard of hearing, or (3) never set foot in the room that your aquarium is in.
As for mine, it’s going back to the store.
One footnote. I contacted Tetra through their web site but never received a reply.

I had an old style Whisper aquarium filter for years. It worked fine so when I upgraded my tank size I bought this new, “improved” version of the Whisper filter. It has a little tab that is supposed to indicate when media needs changing. Could not activate the tab, tried with all the refills included in the box-none worked. I cannot get the intake tube to stay attached to the unit, so it falls off making the filter not work properly. On top of all that, the thing rattles and buzzes constantly-it certainly doesn’t whisper. Waste of money.
