My tank is beside my window. It faces the noon sun. Algae grows within a day and my fish love it!
poor fish? are you serious? these fish are probably very happy like this cuz strange humongous creatures cant spy on them and freak them out all day ( i got a very shy mama breader who doesnt like to be looked at!) fish love when the tank is like that. it is in no way bad for the fish. its better for them.
thank God its because of excess light and nutrients because one day when i when i went in to see my tank the water was all green! it happened over night =/ so should i just keep the lights off for a couple of days?
yes very true. some very small tetras are feed on green water as new borns becuase it is small enough for the babies to eat when others are still too big. and it is bad in our opion but fish love it!!
Green water grows when there is excess light and nutrients. I keep this tank by a window to encourage the green water, but you could try moving your tank farther from a window, having the lights on less, or using lower wattage lamps. Also, plants can out-compete the algae for nutrients. All these options will take time, so if you want a quick fix, you can keep the tank in total darkness for about 5 days. However, the green water could rapidly reappear unless the original imbalance is addressed.
i have the same and it is in my 55 gallon tank and how do you get rid of it
Green water is simply suspended algae. It does not harm the fish or other life in the tank. In fact, it is a good food source for small fry, and is often grown just for that purpose (which is what I’m doing here). The tank is not “unclean” in any way.
poor fish! CLEAN YOUR TANK!
