Easiest way to remove calcium buildup on my aquarium and its plastic accessories?

Meaning the hood, filter, etc.. What is the easiest way? I’ve heard vinegar, but I only have Apple Cider Vinegar. Is this fine? Also I’ve heard about using a razor blade but I don’t think I trust that because of the “moisture strips” and such.. I’ve also got lemon juice, Mr. Clean magic erasers(original, no chemicals) on hand.. Before I get started, which is the easiest?

I would use regular vinegar, as the apple cider might leave a sticky residue behind, but it might work. Vinegar dissolves calcium, so that’ll be your best bet. Be careful not to get it in the ank though!

I have hard water where I live and we always had lime deposits in our tanks and on our equipment too. I used to make a paste out of vinegar and salt and scrubbed the tank with that. if the lime build up was tough then I would just let the paste sit on it for a while and it usually broke free and cleaned up nicely. Rinse well. and those magic erasers are actually toxic if you look on the package. I don’t know what is in them or what they are made of (silica maybe) but I do know that you should not use them on anything that you or your animals will eat or drink out of.. not to mention have to live in!

cider vinegar is fine to use. I always washed my tanks on sunny days outside. that way they can get plenty of rinsing and then I let them air dry in the sun.

They sell stuff on the internet made just for this reason. I would not take any chances. Jungle makes a product it comes in a 8oz. spray for $3.99 @ http://www.bigalsonline.com. I just went to google and typed in lime cleaner for aquarium. You may be able to find it cheaper somewhere else. Good Luck
