DIY aquarium, glass thickness calculation and stuff.?
guys, i went, make this tank myself and failed; it was 85cm x 40cm x 40cm in its sizes, made of 6mm glass. but while i was filling it with water, bottom part of the glass cracked…. so i think 6mm was just not thick enough. now, i think i’ll use 10mm for the bottom side of the tank yet i’m not sure if front and back sides will be able to bear the pressure… do you think i need 10mm for the whole tank or can i do this changing the cracked bottom part? is there any formula or something to calculate this sorta stuff?
http://www.theaquatools.com/building-your-aquarium <– found this. not sure if correct info. in fact, if it was i shouldn’t have any problem…
thanks, i’ll put a few guinnea pigs (mollies) to see if it’s toxic or not.

im not sure but make sure u use aqua safe silicon or hire a toxicologist to treat ur fish if they get poisoned by the silicon
Did make sure the bottom perfectly flat, level and on a similar surface protected by an aquarium mat or polystyrene tiles?
Just I’ve used 6mm glass for 90x30x45cm tanks before with no problems
Rather than throw away what you’ve already built you could salvage it with another piece of 6mm underneath the existing bottom
