cloudy water/saltwater aquarium?

yesterday I bought a new wet/dry sump filter, and also a protein skimmer. I have it all up, yesterday my water was pretty clear and today it is pretty cloudy like a white haze, what is causing this? also I don’t think my water is circulating very well, i have a hang on overflow, and then the return hose back into the tank, is the water from the bottom of the tank being filtered? thank you

Sounds like the beneficial bacteria starting to bloom, don’t worry about it

Give it time. Your tank is new and suffering from new tank syndrome. Chances are you didn’t wash your new sand or dolamite well enough and it is just going thru it’s cycling stage. No it isn’t bacteria bloom or algae bloom since algae would not be able to exist at this point.

It will clear in a matter of days. You are not running a power head? Just wondering. However not needed and doesn’t make a difference when talking about cloudy water just a question.

Also, how old is your tank? I am going to assume it is as old as your pump. Live rock or not, your tank needs to sit and run for a number of weeks so cloudy water right now isn’t a problem or an issue since it will clear long before you put fish into it.

It’s no problem. Your bacteria are just starting to grow . This is actually good cuz your fish need this in order to survive. but if it doesn’t clean up after you put in your fish, something might be wrong. then try putting plants in your tank

i would worry that it is disolved air bubbles that can be very harmful to yoru tank, if you turn off the protein skimmer and give it an hour it might get better

otherwise check the pump to see its not sucking in air
