Cleaning a fish aquarium for a turtle?
by Aquaboy on Saturday, July 10th, 2010 | 3 Comments
We’re about to take home our new pet eastern box turtle and we’re trying to get everything set up for him. We plan on taking one of my family’s old fish tanks and cleaning it for him. But what sort of cleaning product(s) should we use that won’ be harmful to our new turtle once he’s in? (Keep in mind, he’s not an aquatic turtle).
Thanks!

Use hot water and MILD soap. Like, antibacterial kids stuff. Make sure to rinse it extremely thoroughly, too.
I usually just use hot water, rinse it a lot, and occasionally wipe it down with environmentally/pet friendly wipes, then rinse it again. (only if it smells)
Be cautious! Better safe than sorry, right?
Gonna say it.. Fish tanks are for fish NOT box turtles. EVER.
They do not fair well in small enclosed areas no matter what the man at the pet store tells you. IF they can see thru the sides they will constantly attempt to dig thru the side to get out. Also they must have room to move and even all the floor space of a 40 breeder is not enough.
if your going to keep your new friend then invest in making a turtle table for inside and a outdoor enclosure for him to be in as well that is safe.

If he’s not an aquatic turtle why are you talking about using an aquaruim? If you put him in there you may as well kiss him goodbye. Go to google and look up turtles pens.
