55 Gal North Carolina Native Freshwater Tank

Been working on this tank for about a year. I saw other people’s videos of native tanks and really loved them, but I decided to take a different approach. I’m an avid fisherman, but collecting the juveniles presented more of a challenge for me and will eventually allow me to have more species than collecting grown fish would. It is a 55-gallon tank with 60-gallons-worth of filters on it, not including the under gravel filter. I do have a heater in the tank, but not so much for heating as for keeping a consistent temperature because the tank is in an uninsulated basement. This tank currently holds: 2 Bluegills 2 Red-breasted sunfish (Robins) 2 Blue-spotted sunfish 1 Eastern Mudminnow 1 Danio (left over from before I switched it to a native tank) 1 Pleco I did have a little needlenose gar but one of the water changes didn’t agree with him and he sadly passed. I also used to have another pleco and a crayfish, but one ate the tail of the other (guess which), and as a result I now have neither. Again this tank is relatively new and is being added to as often as I can catch something new. Feel free to comment and ask questions, but know that anything negative will be deleted. Thanks for watching!

Sharks, tuna, sunfish, Monterey Aquarium The World’s Best HD

Pacific bluefin tuna Sleek and streamlined, fast and efficient, bluefin tuna travel the oceans of the world. Ranging the Pacific between here and Japan, they travel more than 6000 miles a year. Galapogos shark This shark lives far out to sea, usually around oceanic islands. His lifestyle is still mostly a mystery–scientists know much more about sharks that live near shore. Pacific sardine Like synchronized swimmers, sardines in a school move as one. When predators come near, there’s safety in numbers. ANd when it’s time to reproduce, mates are close at hand. Yellowfin tuna Yellowfin tuna prefer tropical temperatures, so the only time hey visit the outer bay is when strong El Nino currents bring warm, tropical water to Monterey Bay. Pacific bonito This small tuna has to swim to breathe. As it moves, oxygen-rich water flows in its open mouth and past its gills. If it stopped swimming, it would suffocate. After fishing, I had a ton of new plants I pulled in. Some of the plants, I pulled in by hand because they looked like they were in pretty good condition for the aquarium.

Check out my tankmates at the time: A pumpkin sunfish/bluegill and two freshwater mussels.

Plants in fish tank ?

Question by Ryan G: Plants in fish tank ?
if I put a lot of freshwater plants in a tub with pumpkinseed sunfish would these plants provide enough oxygen for the sunfish ?

You can balance a tank with plants added to produce oxygen for the fish. You just need to establish the plants first and add fish that are not overcrowded. You should check online to see how many fish your tub accomodates (how many gallons of water each fish needs).

What can I keep with a freshwater sunfish?

Question by Jamie C: What can I keep with a freshwater sunfish?
I caught a fresh water sunfish in a lake last year and I’ve been keeping it in a 10 gallon tank since then. It seems kind of lonely, (not sure of gender) but is there any other kind of fish I could keep with it in a 10 gallon? What would it fight with/ not fight with? Also, if I could keep an underwater frog or small turtle let me know. Thanks in advance! =D
MORE DETAILS….. it is full size and 3 or 4 inches long… i believe it might actually be a pygmy sunfish

How to take care of a sunfish as a pet?

Question by Brianna Lavina: How to take care of a sunfish as a pet?
I was freshwater fishing today and caught 7 sunfish. I have 3 adults in a 55 gallon fish tank and 4 babies in a 10 gallon. What do they eat? How often do they eat? I have no idea what species they are. All I know is that they are all striped and green/black and one is spotted and like white/orange/blue. Should I separate by species or age? What about setting up the cage? How do you make your own hides for them? How do you clean the cage? How often? Please give me some info.

I strongly urge you to check your local fish and game website for their regulations on keeping native fishes. It is illegal without a permit in most states, and getting a permit in some states is fairly difficult.

Some sunfishes are carnivorous, like the pumpkinseed and orange-spotted sunfish, others are omnivores, such as the bluegill and spotted sunfish. The carnivores can probably be fed like cichlids and the omnivores with both cichlid and koi food, I should think.
