How to setup a betta tank

Showing you how to setup an Eclipse system 6 for a betta fish. Yes I know I did not make any sense when I was taking the betta fish out of the container. I also would ask for any good names for him.

Filter Series: Sponge Filters.

Probably the most overlooked and underrated filter in all of aquatics. It is one of the most simplest and effective form of filtering. In fact if almost every form of filter has some kind of sponge in it. In Europe if you look at many of their filters, its just mostly layers of sponges. It does mechanical and biological filtration and performance of them varying on application. Sponges will last pretty much until the material its self starts to break down or rip. You can continually and periodically rinse it until that time comes, to keep it from being clogged. I think everyone should have some kind in all their aquariums. Its usefulness and practicality can not be denied. My favorite are the ATI Hydro Sponge (models are as follows: I, II, III, IV, V) and I use them as supplemental filters and usually go a size or 2 bigger than what it suggests (not necessary). I prefer to use the air pump due to its better performance biologically. Of course the choice is yours; you really cant go wrong with one. If you have any questions just let me know. Thanks for tuning in!

How to build a simple DIY Aquaponics system using a Koi Carp pond (for less than $200)

Rod Ingersoll details how he set up an experimental Aquaponics system using his existing fish pond with Koi Carp. Its a basic guide showing you how to build your own Aquaponic system. Aquaponics is a sustainable, closed-loop farming system where fish waste is used to grow agriculture. Water and nutrients from the fish waste travels into a biological filter, solids are then removed and nutrient rich water flows around the backyard using gravity into two vegetable grow beds. These vegetable beds contain a bell siphon that drains all the water from them every 10mins and flows into two tanks under them. The water movement oxygenates the fish below. Once i get some silver perch fingerlings they will go in the two black tubs below the grow beds. The I will be able to harvest vegetables and fish and still look at my beautiful Koi Pond. This experiment was set up prior to travelling to Papua New Guinea where Rod will work with the local people to develop a self sufficient system. Basin Tank (Formerly The Volcano Tank)

So, the Volcano Tank had an “explosion!” Well, it has been a very long time since I have updated anything. The main reason was because nothing had changed. Growth, coral fighting, and time had happened, but nothing warranting any updates. However, my visions of grandeur started to become painful, though I was not prepared to gut this tank and build the larger one I referred to way back. Not yet at least. As such, I modified the Volcano Tank to include a larger basin and my attempt was to further the “realism” of the set up. Now, the Volcano was a privilege to photograph, but in person, it was easy to see that it was a mixture of rock in an unnatural way, and I have fixed that. What is ironic, is it doesn’t photograph as well, but in person looks more natural! Go figure! Further still, I have not taken good pictures, and I suppose it is suicide to toss up pictures that don’t meet the quality of the previous shots, but we are all reefers out here so we all know. There will be some die-off and it will take a couple of weeks to find the groove. Lastly, this is RIGHT after the change, so the water hasn’t settled, some detritus is on the rocks, and the corals aren’t out. So, no judgement calls on the photo shots or “cleanliness,” deal?! ;) Anyway, the basin is about a full 3-4″ deep now, which is cool! Plus, underwater looks more natural as well…. Let me know your thoughts!

Red Sea Max 250 (14) What’s Under the Hood (Full System Review)

I’ve had a bunch of questions about my Red Sea Max 250. Many of which have already been covered, but not in a single video. Most were covered along the way at some point either as I set the tank up or was going through the cycle process, etc. So this is kind of a recap of the entire system. I did my best to explain things as thoroughly and as quickly as possible, but if I missed something, send me an email or leave a comment and I will respond. Thanks again to the nearly 1500 views in less than 2 weeks I really appreciate it!…Jeff
